Not necessarily a regret. I got the RCI steel skid plate package....a lot of money and a lot of weight. Sort of wish I had gone with aluminum, but then I found myself on a rocky mountain road and bashed up the steel skid plates pretty good. They're still in their proper form...if I had gone with aluminum they would've been deformed for sure.
Steel or aluminum, can be a tough call to make. When we did our first built 4x4, I went all steel (bumpers, tire carrier, armor, rock sliders). What I found in 10 years was most hits were minor, a couple were a bit 'firm'<g>. In hindsight, I'd have preferred aluminum and, if a part got mangled, just replace the part. Our armor added nearly 500 lbs, permanently being hauled around.

As we build out the taco, I'll be selective in where steel goes, mostly aluminum, and save 50-60% of the weight.

I have the SR manual, and he main things I can think of are

1) probably would have gone with aluminum skid set instead of the steel, but RCI’s product has given me nothing to complain about and it’s not a big deal either way whatsoever
2) regretting not putting screen protectors on the dash cluster
3) still unsure about potential clear wrap or alternatives to protect paint
4) I would probably also get a bed cover so the plastic doesn’t keep getting scraped up

Overall very happy with the upgrades, and it makes the truck feel 100x better

-fastop traveler tonneau/soft top combination
-Toyo Open Country A/T3 255 80r17s
-RCI Skid plate set/cat guards
-EKR Seat cover set

I will definitely stand by the SR trim with the manual as one of the best values on the market. I’m coming from a T100 and I want as few tech options and future electrical gremlins, so the SR is a very no-nonsense option with enough creature comforts to keep the truck really enjoyable. Also really love the fact the manual comes with the TRD engine/transmission, keep my truck a sleeper on the streets

I have few regrets but questioned the rigid bed covers from observing others and my use. While still undecided on getting a tent topper I have no regrets getting a Fas-Top that gets me an open bed or topper with easy. They might not be for some here but I sure like it for a work oriented light truck.

We did a lot of comparing competing pickups, larger, and smaller. I think that's why some things people gripe about with gen 4 are not a bother.

One other important thing for the ultimate end or build was getting the right version in the first place. In prolonged shopping and now ownership I did not get what many do like buy a version without a locker and then put big tires on, and the lift and level stuff. A long bed OR with better seating package has been great for my use that's off road a lot.

Maybe this pic will explain the beauty of the Fas-Top.

Feel obligated to say thank you for your post a few months back about the Fastop Traveler. Helped me pull the trigger and get one myself, and it’s fit my truck and my lifestyle perfectly so far. I can’t get over how convenient it is to pop up the soft topper for camping or moving bigger things, but getting the tonneau to keep the bed covered even with it down

Thank you back and I'm glad it is working out.

I can be hesitant to recommend it because in addition to a competitor as a sponsor here who from patent can't make it, some are really fussy about stuff and no soft type topper or tonneau is perfect or totally precise.

Associates who've had soft tonneau covers told me to just consider any as a consumable that will be worn out at some point which was a good mindset.

It is just totally sweet to have an open bed work truck, and the flexibility for when covered.

Ordered mine with factory tri-fold cover and wanted the Yakima rack added which was part of the deal. A couple of months later when the truck got close to delivery, it was found out that the Yakima is no longer supported to fit with the trifold. Dealer could not get the tri-fold removed from the PIO options and it came through and I got stuck with it which I had to sell and loose money. I ended up putting on a Retrax XR so I could mount a rack on it.

I also wished I could have gotten the trailer camera option. It was not selectable by the dealer at the time my truck was built even though the website says it could be optioned in.

My experience is to use steel on anything that will hit rock, as it will slide. Where as aluminum is softer and tends to dig in and grab.

not yet....but the regret is starting to mount.

for clarity.....this truck is going to be a total pavement princess. the most offroadig it will do is up fire roads (albeit very crappy ones) while hauling mtbs with the boys

2025 - trailhunter...things i thought would be in my favor and didnt turn out
1. 4? 5? weeks old....it has 750 KM on it as of today....and its been back for a battery issue and an AC leak.... the leak, im waiting 1 month on parts so i have no AC at the moment.
2. the roof rack is useless. i found out after the fact its only rated for 60kg. how am i going to put dead bodies on that roof rack? not only that, the wind noise is insane.....cost me about $200CAD for the trim pieces for when i remove the rack.
3. the ARB sports bar - so...i basically cant mount anything in the box....great....love the look of it, but its kinda useless. i knew this coming in to be fair......
4. the fuel mileage is atrocious, i may as well have gone full gas model and saved 30k CAD
5. i didnt think no underseat storage was going to be an issue, but it totally is.
6. love the stock 33s. love the wheel design, love the offset, truck looks mean AF. well, good luck finding dedicated winter tires to match the 33s....very few ioptions and im basically stuck with 18s unless i want to deal with speedo inaccuracy

I spent $180 on a tonneau cover from Amazon. Will it last 10 years? Probably not. Will it protect anything from theft? No. Will it keep the rain out? Nope. Does it keep the snow out of the bed? Yes.

Money well spent.
