If and after we get this problem solved, the next problem should be the center channel speaker needing a way to adjust the volume down so that we can hear the other speakers in the truck. There should be a way to do it in the balance and fade settings.
Agreed, they put very little time into the audio configuration options. I love the little removable speaker, but it's way too overpowering. I found it sounds best if I tune treble, mid-range, and bass well below mid. I also noticed that the sound quality of Sirius XM versus when I use Spotify is totally different. I went to take a pic of my settings with my phone connected to Carplay and as soon as I touched the camera icon, all of the settings adjust themselves a little bit. Super weird, but I disconnected my phone and snapped a pic of what I have set for Sound Tuning if you wanna give it a try and see if it's better for you.

So latest from Apple, they asked me to completely restore my iPhone to factory and see if the issue still persists. I told them the fact that my iPhone works in other vehicles, and other peoples phones do not work in my vehicle should prove that, but this is the road they want to lead me down. Once I get them these results, it should point to the fact that it is indeed a vehicle problem, in which case we should be able to escalate to either someone that writes the Carplay software for Toyota, or to someone at Toyota stating that it's their problem. I will keep you posted but I already know the restored phone is not going to work. Just need to satisfy Apple so we can move this case on to the appropriate party.

Maybe I missed it, but have you tried using another phone in your truck?

I get the same behavior, any time siri reads a txt, announces a turn, or any other notification the music/audio keeps playing full volume. The same phone on my wifes Outback and on my Sony head unit in my Tundra don't behave this way, they both lower the media volume while siri is speaking. Quite annoying and makes siri useless.

Just got my truck yesterday and it was one of the first issues I noticed. Minor by still annoying. No issues with my other vehicles.

Still fighting this battle for all of us! Here is my most recent post to Toyota Brand Engagement. Apple has stated this is a problem with their software design, not Car Play so hoping they finally do something about it!

Hello,

I received the following information from Apple after extensive troubleshooting and log collection with them. This a a Toyota problem with the Infotainment system and the way it was designed. It does not work the way that Car Play was intended to work with Apple products and has nothing to do with my iPhone. Please let me know what the next steps are to get the appropriate team at Toyota to look at the software design to resolve this issue. Thanks!

Mr. Wright,

It was a pleasure assisting you today with the safety concerns over CarPlay and music not muting when text messages are being read by siri. We understand problem is only happening with Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius and Lexus models. CarPlay is designed to work for maximum safety while operating any motor vehicle and to be able to stay hands free and free from distractions. Hopefully Toyota engineers are able to put out an update to there multimedia display so you can be able to use the features properly. This issue is only affecting the above reference Toyota/Lexus vehicles. CarPlay is working flawlessly across all other vehicle makes and models. If anything ever needs to be update on Apple’s side then we put out periodic updates to the IOS which includes CarPlay updates for upgraded features or bug fixes. Please keep us posted on this matter.
