Are orders for 2025 tacoma 6mt's in canada basically done for the year?

I've bought lots of new vehicles over the years but this will be my first Toyota.

Shopping for either 6mt trd off road or sport+ in BC Canada. The only options I can make are colour on either trim. Looking for "Terra"

Spoke to two different dealers today:

- Comox valley toyota (bc), told me it's a year out for a factory order.

- Destination toyota in burnaby (bc), mentioned it'd be close to a year, and would only give me further details if i made a $1000 non refundable deposit?

Is this the norm?

My limited understanding is that all dealers can see current tacoma's in production, and can trade for a vehicle if it hasn't gone to delivery yet? Can I do this search myself? Is there a specific time frame when orders close, as it doesn't seem that late in the 2025 production window?

Any tips or advice would be great.

Personally I would avoid any dealers doing the “non refundable deposit” shenanigans. Hopefully you can talk them into a “subject to test drive” or something similar.
But yes you will need to get on a list and just wait for a spec to arrive that you’re looking for.
The market is definitely getting better but dealers will 100% prioritize customers with “good” trade ins or those willing to buy extras such as warranty, ppf & accessories.
If you don’t happen to have a trade or commit to purchasing those extras it could definitely be a long wait.

I’d recommend also checking Facebook marketplace often as many of the sales reps will post available vehicles there before you’ll see them hit the dealer websites.

Don't know if this makes it easier to swallow but I put a deposit down and waited 15 months (deposit May 2023, delivery August 24) for exact specs and color I wanted for my 24 TRD ORP 6MT in the US. It was a tough wait and there were maybe 2 other trucks I saw get listed in my area with close build spec but wrong color.

IMO it's worth waiting if you are dead-set on a specific color and build.

I have 3x TRD Off Road 6M, because I want to drive manual until I die and honestly 51k (2024) is a good price for what you get.

Reach out to Squamish Toyota, they will find you one. Be prepared to wait for a year. David Webster is great. They take a $500 refundable deposit, I assume they can sell a manual Tacoma in about 4mins if you don't go through with the transaction. Don't be specific with your colour, Terra will probably be extra challenging. I started hassling them for manual Tacomas in early 2023 and eventually you will get one.

Just place the order brother, you won't regret it.

not sure but usually somewhat current Cargurus show a few manuals, BC and AB. A Terra showing in AB. Just expand that search to nationwide and manual

This is spot on. I really wanted the blue, but it was very rare in a limited i-force max. I settled with underground, but I pine for the blue everytime I see one.

Mine was worse at September 2023 to January 2025 but there’s a major wait period in Canada for these, they aren’t collecting on the lots, that being said all dealers in my province have refundable deposits as long as an ETA hasn’t been given, if an ETA was given you just have to wait for it to arrive to get your deposit back

I waited 3 months for a 2025 TRD sport premium (non hybrid) to arrive, and it had already been on order by the dealer...I just put my name on it. $500 refundable deposit. When it came in, I looked at it but decided it wasn't the truck for me...so I made a quick jump to another dealer to purchase my 2024 black OR hybrid. It had been sitting on the lot for over a month (price marked up, of course). I went on the coldest day, saturday of a long weekend, and twisted their arm for like 2 mins to get the price down, and done deal. lol. I haven't seen another hybrid OR anywhere in the province, they seem to be in short supply. Actually the one I bought was the first one I had ever seen. November build date. Dealer told me they wouldn't get any additional OR hybrids in until summer.

Now...there are some units sitting on lots. The first 2024 Tacoma I drove was a TRD sport premium 6ft in Solar Octane. It was a dealer demo. That was in early nov 2024. Guess what? It's still there at the dealer for sale! 4500km's and marked up 6 grand over new. They actually have 2, one is underground color with 15k km's...marked up 6 grand over new. However, that dealer is cringe and I'd never buy a vehicle from them anyways. But...if you're looking specifically for a 6 speed MT...you may have to order and wait. Walk away from dealers doing non-refundable deposits. 3-4 months is the realistic timeframe, and hopefully it comes from the Guanajuato plant...they seem to have better quality paint. I had looked at an ice cap OR built in Baja...it had paint defects. Others have reported issues as well with Baja builds. Don't shoot the messenger
