A user who just saw a 2024 Tacoma SR5 in person showed a picture of the new key card style FOB (next to the standard FOB), it's the first I'm personally ever seeing it. Looks much thicker than I hoped, but still nifty.

They gave this feedback - "Yeah it’ll fit in a card slot. It’s not as thin as an actual card but it’s thinner than you think"

That looks identical (other than the logo) to my 11 year old Lexus lol. I don't use mine much because I don't expect it's as durable as the regular fob, but in the event you're wearing a suit or something, it's nice to have a low profile option to slip into your jacket pocket.

Would you say it’s slim enough to fit in a wallet? Or not quite that small

Feedback about the 2024 Tacoma keycard fob from the person who took the photo.

"Yeah it’ll fit in a card slot. It’s not as thin as an actual card but it’s thinner than you think"

It's hard to tell thickness from the photo but if it's as thick as 3 credit cards, that's not terrible. I prefer the flatter profile of it for the pocket.

Idk why my expectations were so high, but I was thinking like a Tesla key card lol.

I can still get good use from this.

Any chance it will break when you keep it in a wallet and you're always sitting on it?

I would assume Tesla and Toyota are using different technologies to detect the card. I assume that the Toyota/Lexus ones have to have a battery which means it is broadcasting some low power signal whereas the Tesla one the car is doing all the work by looking for the card constantly.

I hope to rip my card apart and see if I can put it in a waterproof band like Rivian has. That way if I'm out adventuring I don't have to worry about the card or fob

Does anyone know if it is waterproof? As someone who surfs, it's tricky to bring a key in your wetsuit because the water will damage most of the current keys. You also can't use a lockbox because of the proximity sensors. Just trying to figure out if this is a good option for bringing in the water. I know the one made by Tesla is waterproof.

It doesn’t look waterproof to me.

I'm not gonna try mine, but I'm 99% sure it is not waterproof. Some electronics inside and it's not sealed. Ziploc bag? Haha

Not waterproof according to the owner's manual. Sure looks much thinner in the sketches, hopefully that is accurate.

Here's some more info from it...
