Integrated Hitch Concerns

I picked up a TRD off road recently and took in on some pretty mild trails. Surprisingly i've already hit the hitch a couple times while maneuvering through cross ditches. Normally I wouldn't care much as a hitches can be replaced.. except for the new tacoma has an integrated hitch that's welded to the frame. Curious if others have concerns about this. I don't want to destroy the hitch to the point where I cannot tow anything. Do people get skid plates for hitches?

I mean the hitch is like 1/2" boxed steel. I don't think a few bumps on the trail is gonna do anything to it.

I just picked one up thanks for the link! The hitch is steel but scraping it on rocks every weekend will eventually do bad things to it.

I like that idea, I may weld a heavy piece below my normal 1/4” thick HSS bumper step
