Hey all, first time truck owner here. 2024 SR5 Crew Cab 4x4. Just got my 1.5” level kit and will be installing that and then doing tires. I’ve over researched this and have no idea what to do. I come from muscle cars and motorcycles so I’m actually clueless about truck tries.
I’m looking to do a 275 or 285/70/17 tire with the level on the stock sr5 rims. I’m fairly certain I’m going to do the 285 BF Goodrich Trail Terrain which are SL rated. I do 95% on road driving. Nothing crazy off road. It’ll see more NY snowstorms than off roading. I doubt I’ll tow, will not be rock crawling or anything like that. Will do the occasional 2-4 hour road trip. I do want something more aggressive looking than the stock 245s
I’ve read a few things about the 285s being prone to hydroplane and the BFGs being sketchy in the rain. But they seem very highly rated. I’ve also considered the 275 Wild Peak AT4s but those are C rated in that size and I feel like that would be overkill for me. I considered going to the wild peaks in a 265, which are also SL but I’m afraid I may have regretted not going bigger.
any input from you long time truck folks would be appreciated. I’m not sold on any tire/brand/size so please throw anything at me.
