We had a pretty good rain to ice to snow event in Central WI yesterday which had me using the windshield washer excessively on my way to and from work today, due to the large amounts of road treatment laid down. I’m not sure if I caused this whilst scraping my windshield this morning or not but at one point, my drivers side wiper blade detached and almost went flying to the roadside, but for the tiniest snag by the arm brining it back to rest in the coweling.
Lo and behold, the little button/tab that retains the wiper blade did not seem to have much bite as it protrudes through the cutout of the wiper arm assembly. I reatached the blade, gave it a couple of tugs, and sure enough it came right back off. Did this two more times before deciding to gingerly bend out the plastic tab (very nervous it would break off) so it had a bit more purchase tension on the bracket. I suspect this is not the end of this saga and I will be replacing these in the near future. Wipers were frozen down this morning and I had to slide the scraper under them lengthwise to free them.
