Really like the new tacoma but is it the right one?

Since the new 4th gen Tacoma has been released I've always liked it, but not the price. the current Tacoma I have a deposit for is a TRD Off-Road at MSRP for around $54,000. However, I have got to sit in and see how I would be in the Tacoma. ( I am 6'4 230 lbs ) While I do fit having the seat pulled back all the way the back seat is useless. Saying this I understand It is a mid-size truck and they are smaller, but while waiting for my truck to come in from the deposit I started to like the Chevy 1500 RST and now I am leaning my decision on the Chevy just because they are almost the same price just a bigger truck with chevy. I still really want the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, should I still stick with my deposit or get a Chevy 1500?

It sounds like full size is the way to go for you, specifically.

I'm 5' 9" and most of my family is shorter than me (my son is 6' 2" but he can ride in the front passenger seat if he needs to). For my family, the Taco is the right size.

I rented a 2024 base RAM 1500 and 2024 mid-tier Ford F150 back-to-back for a week, each (within the last three weeks). Here are my thoughts:

Full size is a lot easier to drive than I thought, but still a pain to park in a lot of parking lots. The F150 had cameras which helped a lot, so if you go that route, get the cameras. You will use them.

The RAM was so much more comfortable than the Ford, which surprised me. I drove 7 straight hours through the Smoky Mountains in the RAM (this included a to-and-from ride down the Tail of the Dragon) and my bad back was perfectly fine! It honestly was a great surprise. While the F150 was so much nicer inside, and had way better tech, after an hour's drive to the airport, I had the same back pain I have in my current sports sedan. And yes, I played with the seats for a long time before driving.

The RAM was also a lot more stable in uneven pavement; the back of the Ford wanted to play, but the RAM just felt steady. Hard to describe.

My buddy has a Chevy, and honestly, it feels to ME like the middle ground for both these trucks above.

If it was MY truck decision, and I could swing a bit more money, I'd shoot for a Tundra, to be honest. My brother's Tundra was perfect. But if you're looking to save some money up front, I guess you could go with any of them.

I owned a Silverado Trail Boss that I traded for my Tacoma Sport. I am not a big guy at all. But I LOVED my Trail Boss. It was 6.2 V8 however and I took a new job 60miles away mon to friday so the Boss was killing me with gas. I had a Tacoma prior to the Chevy that I kept for 9 years so liked it as well. Long story short. I would never have bought the new Tacoma if not for the gas problem. The comfort and size of the full size was awesome. But I do love my new Sport. Has all the same bells and whistles and more as the Chevy. I agree with post above. Sounds like you need a full size. And would definitely look at Tundra before I pulled trigger on Chevy. You could have everything the Tacoma has plus full size

However, I don't know what type of incentives may be out there for the Chevy. I have notices that Tundra prices are getting fairly strong discounts at my local dealer. $5K on the limited trims and up to $7K on the others. That is with 36 month 0% financing available.

I think this is an indication of the overall market slowing and I think it continues. Manufactures would not be offering 0% financing unless there was a good reason. With were interest rates are that is a BIG subsidy.

If people can wait through the initial hype of the new Tacoma I expect they will be able to get a REALLY good deal on it. You can already get $3K off if you look in the right places. Get it right at the end of the year and you might even be able to swing $5K.

The current full-size truck I am looking at is giving an $8k discount now being around $54,000. Tundras are nice but the dealerships around me aren't doing discounts as strong as your nearby dealership.

Im not 100 percent sure but before I would build my custom Tacoma OF MSRP would be around $53k now however I built the same one and it says the MSRP starts at $50,730 ( TRD Off-Road Upgrade Package with a 14-inch screen).
