What’s the difference in ride quality for those that have gone to the 285/70R17 or 295/70R17 vs. the stock 265/70R17 (TRD OR)?

The ride quality stock is really great and I wouldn’t want to sacrifice too much. My head says to stick with 285/70R17 Load Range C to minimize impact to the ride quality.

285/70R17 is the absolute perfect size for this truck. The key to it is making sure you order the right one. Assuming you are not hauling trailers, heavy payloads consistantly etc. in a Falken Wildpeak AT4 you have to order this one:
28844913 P285/70R17 SL - Coming in at 53.4 LBS
instead of:
28847543 LT285/70R17 C - Coming in at 65.4 LBS
or
28840612 LT285/70R17 E - Also at 65.4 LBS
You do lose some load capacity and tread is 14 instead of 18/32". However ride is still smooth, the weight stays down to keep MPG and power and you get the look of 33s. This specific tire is also USA manufactured. source

Also going to throw out there for others looking into the same thing. I have been hunting for a way to go up above 33", keep 3 peak symbol and keep the weight down. Goodyear just released their Stronghold AT which has significant weight reductions compared to everything in the category.

Coming in with an E rated 34" options at 56 LBS.. LT285/75R17. Also light weight 33s in C and E.

I went up to the Toyo Open Country R/T which is a true 33.0” 285/70r17 in E load and I don’t notice much of a difference in ride than stock. MPGs took a bit of a hit, but I agree, this is the ideal size tire for this truck on stock suspension.

BFG KO3's C range 285/70 R17. Pressure went from 30 on the stock tires to 35 on the KO3's, so there is a very, very slight increase in stiffness in the ride. It's negligible. Truck still handles great. Took it on the twisty turny's on Hwy 1 north coast of Cali last week. Awesome ride. Overall, lost about .6 mpg according to the truck.
