So I’m doing pick up truck things in my pick up. You know like going to Home Depot or Lowe’s and you need to leave the tailgate down to bring home some bigger items. However, this drives the safety sense nuts when you’re backing into the driveway.

I guess I’m just venting at this point. But even with the tailgate up when I back into the driveway next to my house, the truck likes to slam on the brakes when it sees the garbage can, even though there’s a foot of space between my truck and the garbage can, and it’s not even within the path of travel

When I picked up my new Sport last April and went to a car wash for the first time, I had all kinds of lights blinking and things screaming at me! No, the dealer did not instruct me or give me any indoctrination.
Needless to say I have learned a lot about TSS in The past year, I back into my garage for a reason and I now leave off the parking support brake permanently. If I don’t, it slams the brakes on repeatedly trying to back up close to a wall In the garage.

From my experience there isn't much that Safety Sense does like - starting with driving and using your truck. lol

I had to back past a vehicle blocking part of my driveway last week and it put some chevrons on the map and beeped because I was close, which made sense. But then three times since it has done the same thing when there was nothing there. It seems to get paranoid and freak out over imaginary stuff. Luckily that has stopped, at least for now.

It is good to be warned when you are near stuff, but not to be nagged. I got married for that and I don't need my truck joining in. :)

I really wish there was one button somewhere to turn everything off. It's a major PITA when off-roading.

There are... they are all in the MID display and settings menu... all spelled out in your manual

Yeah, that's why I said I wish there was one button somewhere to turn everything off.

The Ineos Grenadier does this right: when you put it in off-road mode, all the nannies turn off.

Yeah - that is how this should work on Tacomas too - when you are off road those nannies just get in the way.

Diving down through menus when you want to take your truck off road is dumb and then having to do it all again when you are back on road is a PITA. Toyota could address that in a software update, but I won't be holding my breath.
