So does the Toyota app that costs $15 work as a "find my truck" if stolen ?

I sure hope so. Need something to help me cope with the reality that I'm going to pay Toyota an additional $15 each month to subscribe to the truck I own. My trial runs out this weekend.

You can shut all of that garbage off independent of the app's paid features.
If you're using the app, you're giving your data. Hell, if you're driving the truck your probably giving data, as sad as that sounds.

The Toyota App functionality isn't worth $15/year, let alone $15/mo

I'm really not that interesting to follow around, they can have at it. My only concern was them reporting to my insurance company, which Toyota confirmed I had disabled. But really, who even knows? My premiums continue to rise every 6 months without fail for no logical reason.

You can turn all that off in the app.
For "full" opt out, you have to use the SOS button, but that still might not guarantee that they're not collecting data.

All modern cars have some sort of connected features now days. Thieves know this. they will unhook the 4g/5g/Sat antennas as fast as possible rendering the apps useless.

Mine just expired today...

Although it was laggy, I did enjoy being to remote start from anywhere. Since the 3-press remote start on the remote is terrible in function and range, I often defaulted to the app to remote start.

It was also nice being able to lock/unlock remotely if I wasn't near the truck or needed to allow someone in & out without being around.

All that said, I wont be paying $15/mo. I'd consider $20/year though. my $.02

I used to work in insurance and it might help that you know that your driving habits aren't the reason premiums go up or down. Companies take a holistic look at the people in your age and gender demographic. That's how they set premiums. Yes, I do think there is some price gouging involved but that's why it's important to shop around when premiums go up. It's more legwork on our end but there's usually a better price out there if we're willing to take the time and look.

DON'T PAY EXTRA FOR IT! It's included! Safety Connect, which is provided for free for up to 10 years, includes GPS location if stolen. Per the App:

If you're involved in an accident, your vehicle is stolen, or the unexpected occurs, Safety Connect is here to help and send assistance directly to your vehicle's GPS location, if you need it.*

* Up to 10-years, 4G Network Dependent (I take this to mean that as long as 4G cell service is available where the vehicle is located, it should work.)

I let my Insurance Company know and receive a discount for vehicle location service.

Now, who exactly they send if it's stolen remains to be seen! Hopefully it's Law Enforcement and not a Mechanic!
