Hello, all,

First time poster here, and I just bought my first Tacoma a couple days ago. I love the truck so far. I came from a Ram 1500 so definitely an adjustment size-wise but I knew that going in. I just want to get the opinion of some people who have more experience with Tacoma ownership than I do. I am buying a custom built smoker on a trailer built. Total weight will be between 2500-2800 lbs. My truck is rated at 6400 lbs so not worried about the power at all. My question has to with braking. The smoker is a single axle and will not have brakes on it. My old smoker weighed about 2,000 lbs and it was never a problem to pull and stop without brakes but, that was obviously with a larger truck. Anyone have experience pulling and stopping with that type of weight on the back of the Tacoma? Most trips with it will be in town and maybe some short interstate trips from time to time. However I have to travel about 4 hours to pick it up when it’s ready. Thanks for any input on advance

I don’t have any problems stopping my Rzr on a single axle. I do have the manual which might help some

Okay, I appreciate the insight. I have just never towed with a midsize truck. So trying to get a gauge of the capabilities like stopping with that much weight without a trailer brake. I assume I will be fine. The trip is mostly flat with the exception of the last hour or so. I will just be sure to take it easy
