Interesting that he said the casting debris (sand I would assume) was only causing hard shifts and no failures.
I understood it as casting debris is causing problems.. Both failure and hard shifting. Either way glad they found the culprit..

I really need to watch that video but it will be a while until I have the time.

From reading the comments it seems like Brown is saying that poor manufacturing can cause poor shift quality, and that is fine from Toyota's POV. And that the sloppy casting process is only a problem when it is bad enough to take out some gears? I assume it is all part of the same thing, since it is likely that damaged solenoids cause the hard shifts and the loss of some gears.

If Toyota is actually saying that expensive trucks which shift like crap are OK, then my faith in them has taken yet another hit. At least they are replacing the Tundra engines, but with our transmission we are supposed to just live with it.

If that theory is truly the case Toyota USA should be absolutely embarrassed of themselves and given zero excuses, this is the logic of the big 3 and we know that story

I watched most of the video.. I didn’t take it that way at all. Basically when problems arise they chase them down ASAP and fix the problem.

The only thing that pisses me off and TeRD Jon should have asked is when failures do occur why do customers have to wait several weeks or months for replacement parts! Paying 45-68K they should air mail it next day from the plant!

Thanks @MT-Taco. I will watch that video soon, and that was just my impression from some of the comments posted here. I'm glad to hear that Toyota is still taking care of us, which they always have in the past.

Although it would really piss me off to have my new truck waiting months for repairs, I do get it. Parts are almost always in short supply during the introduction model year from most companies.

Of course if it is my truck that dies, I want those parts air mailed too. :)
