For you two who put 275/70/18s on, did you get them to fit in the spare area well? I saw @Rope_photo say his barely fit and had to deflate them? Ugh. I want to replace the 17" that came on my sport with a matching 18" and same tire that I am running (Michelin LTX M/S 2 in 275/70/18) so that if get a flat anywhere, I can just swap it out and go -- same tire as the others I put on.

Did you both have to deflate them or is that just because they both end up being slightly taller than a nominal 33.2"?

Thanks!!
The spare placement is odd under the truck. Much more asymmetrical than the 5th gen 4Runner was. That said, once they got it up in there and the rain let up, I was able to inflate it under the truck. So it will fit inflated under there, but I think they had trouble at the shop with it rubbing on the sway bar as they were trying to get it up in there.

Hey dudes - I tested my new wheels and tires on every off-road condition imaginable this weekend, and I can report back that I’m super happy with the 22 pound wheels and 54 pound Falken wildpeaks. It rides like a dream. I’ll do a bigger write up later. I’ve learned a shit ton about unsprung mass and tires over this journey.

Nice….i knew you would know this…so i run this by you , i like the trailhunter wheels, love them. I also like the method bronze wheels, i want 18”. I like these stock falken tires truck came with , so when i change these out im going to go with falken wildpeaks like you describe, my question is can i order the trail hunter wheels and set truck up so i have poke…….i know im an odd ball i just like some poke, i dont care about milage or ,overspray…live in woods off grid and im installing full floor board sliders by greenlane offroad , light weight aluminum good coverage, or would it be better to get the method wheels to get the poke i want, not crazy poke but want it past fenders
thank you David

The TH wheels will have poke on your truck just as they come - they are +20 and yours I think are +55 from the factory - I’ll try to find a picture of an OR with the TH wheels

How much do you care about how the truck handles / gas mileage and how much do you care about whether you have to take off the crash plates behind the mud flaps

Buddy if that’s the case I would think about the Falken Wildpeak AT4W in 35x11.5 — it’s a C load tire that’s only 62 pounds and that’s light for that size. I def am thinking about experimenting with it with my TH wheels. Hold off though I want to make sure it’ll fit your truck. If it will it will look ridiculously good and plenty pokey.

This member shows level of poke with TH wheels on a TRD OR with 265s:

if you go to 285s or more you’ll get a decent amount more poke. I’ve also got a bunch of 34” tire recommendations as I’m not entirely sure a 35x11.5 will fit even with the plates removed — maybe another member can comment on that

You could very easily put on 285/70/18s which come out at 33.7” in diameter for most brands and will have a fair bit of poke. If you don’t give a crap about weight I’d get the Falken AT4W in that size which runs in a true 34” and is also a bit wider than almost any other manufacturer in that size. C load three ply sidewall - tough as balls. 68lb. I think tread width is 9.6” and tire width is 11.5”. They are big boys and will look awesome.

Probably a little more poke than what I have here - may or may not be enough for you.

This will be great, besides doing leveling kit, only adjustment may be removing crash bar. ?
