Also another thing to consider is what you have said on this forum if you decide to lemon law. Toyota could use it against you. My counselor advised me against speaking to anyone. If need be ask administrators to wipe out all your posts and comments on this forum even if it’s a goodbye forever.

@TurboTruck! Those are all valid points. One of the prerequisites of the lemon law here is the auto company needs to be notified prior to enacting the lemon law so I'd have to reach out to them directly prior. Good point about having a mod delete this thread if that's the direction I ultimately end up going... I don't want to do that though, I love the truck and I'm sure the new transmission will work great.

I saw your other thread about your transmission heating up going up some hills in the mountains... What milage where you at during that time... I think the thread was in late May? Maybe this was a warning of the trans going out?

@Kjc it was only just a week or two before the failure. Mileage would have been around the 4000 mark. I went up and down that mountain for 2 weeks. If I had been driving for an hour or more, the transmission would start to climb pretty much within the first one hundred feet of starting my climb. If I had just driven to town and back up, I could make it up the mountain (it'd still start to heat up, but nothing dangerous, at no point did I allow the transmission to come close to the red line). It drove fine another 2300 miles before the issues started.

Dealership came back, new transmission won't be there till 8/9-8/19. Pretty much just past the 30 days. As long as they adhere to those timelines I'll be fine. I gave the dealership a handful of other items I want them to look at while they have it. The rear seals on the bottom of the passenger windows do not appear to be properly attached to the door, they can actively be moved. Second a vibration in the front passenger door during different types of music.

Just got off the phone with my Toyota rep. It's the torque converter according to Toyota engineers, so they're ordering a new torque converter now because it will just happen again with a new transmission. They found metal shavings in the transmission when they opened it.

Toyota, seems to be aware of it and should be making a bulletin for it.

Did they say the metal shavings caused the problem or the shavings are from the transmission failure?

@SonoranSurvivalist Good to hear that they seem to have a handle on how to fix your truck. Maybe the wait won't be as long as you thought it might be?

A lot of us would feel a lot better if Toyota announces something about what is going on with these transmissions. But since hybrids don't have torque converters there must be something different going on with them.

All, happy to report I have my truck back. over the next few days I'm going to be trying to track what I can observe is different with the new torque converter and transmission. I've only put maybe 20 miles on it so far, and it's been very smooth shifting from park to drive/reverse and back. shifting through gears while driving has been smooth as well.

I also had them look at the rear door window seals, they ended up replacing both of them while they had the truck.

Excellent progress @SonoranSurvivalist. I bet it is a great feeling to finally get your truck back.

I think that all 4th gens should shift as well as yours does now, and if not there is something wrong, no matter what dealers are telling people. Rough shifts can't be normal if some trucks don't ever have them.

@TacoFreak I agree, not only is it just bad customer service, but I have to think hard shifting is simply not good for the transmission for the long term.
