Window tint (ceramic) before & after: 15% front windows, 40% back & rear windows, 15% moonroof

Update: I paid about $550 and that was with a discount. It’s pretty pricey but for me and where I live, it’s definitely worth it.

Sooo I definitely want to tint my windows, but everything I've seen says windshield (at all) and front side window (above a certain %) tint are illegal in basically every state. Do all these people just risk the ticket?

That being said, any recommendations on good tint levels to start at that wouldn't be too risky?

Definitely check your local tint laws as they differ from state to state but to my knowledge most if not all states, it is illegal to tint your whole windshield. As far as front windows, I believe it’s roughly around 35% VLT for the legal limit. I live in Nevada, so it gets very hot in the summer and a lot of people here have their windshields tinted. Some even darker than what I have. I also personally know a lot of people with 50% windshield tint that have told me they don’t get bothered from law enforcement. It’s definitely always a risk but if you’re driving normally and obeying traffic laws and not giving them a reason to pull you over, they most likely won’t bother you (fingers crossed)

As far as tint levels to start with, most people go with anything from 20% - 35% on their windows and around 50% - 80% on their windshield. I would also recommend ceramic tint for heat rejection. Also, don’t forget putting tint over the factory privacy glass will make it even darker. I would say the 40% I put on the rears made it to about 10% VLT overall.

That is also a popular option but where I live, having ceramic tint over the privacy glass is definitely a must do. The factory privacy glass is just darker glass and has no heat rejection properties, which I need, especially when it’s over 100 degrees out.

Depends how relaxed the cops are in your state. I lived in Newfoundland (Canada) and they'd harrass you over it but I'm in Alberta now where it's also illegal and I've never had an issue with my all around limo tint. I've been pulled over for doing 30 over no license or registration on my person and they cited me for the speeding, said absolutely nothing about the tint lol.

Most cops realize they've got better things to do than ticket for tint.

In MD, tint is a primary offense meaning it can be the sole reason for a stop. I know plenty of LEOs who might use tint if they are suspicious about something else and need probable cause. Otherwise, they don't bother. I've been running tint for decades without issue. YMMV.

Honestly, with 50% sometimes I don’t even notice I have tint on the windshield. Visibility is great at night.

From a quick google search, it looks like only windshields have some UV protection and the rest of the glass, privacy included, does not. This is a general statement and not specific to Toyota or the 2024 Tacoma.

This is very similar to where I live. I think law enforcement here know that most people tint their windshields primarily for the heat, so they tend to leave you alone.

My current vehicle is at 35% on the front windows and it's pretty damn dark as is so I can't imagine personally using anything less. But the 15% looks good at least. My wife got no tint film put on the windshield and it really helped with heat rejection, I'm definitely doing that whenever I get mine.

It is quite a bit darker but I like the privacy it provides as well, and how it looks also. It’s a little lighter in person especially in direct sunlight, video was taken on a somewhat overcasty day.

Windshield tint is a game changer for sure. Air 80 and similar options are great for heat rejection without the tinted look.

Maybe I misread, but did you tint the windshield as well? Or just the sides/rear/sunroof?

I was never into tints, but my current car I bought slightly used and it had 17% ceramic on sides and rear and it’s a game changer. Helps with heat in the summer, but there is definitely a freeing feeling you get from feeling invisible all the drivers around you. It feels oddly peaceful, thats the best way I can describe it lol.
