@32spoke When I get the bad shifts no one could argue that it was working right. But that is my problem, they hit at random and I can't reproduce them for my dealer. It is a great dealership and if the damn thing would start doing it reliably I am pretty sure they would help me out.

Right now I am just waiting and hoping that Toyota comes up with a better way to address this than drive it until it dies. Some trucks have shifted perfectly right up until they died, and others trucks shift like crap but just keep running like @Gfenza89's truck does.

Yup and that right there is the very confusing part, I thought for sure mine would die by now, although I am coming up on 2500 miles and that seems to be the sweet number for failures from what I’ve researched . She shifts decent at cruising speeds, but driving anything under 15mph GOOD LORD, it’s torture. Clunks, rocks the whole truck around, vibrations, shudders enough to vibrate the whole truck….. it’s torture and completely embarrassing that this is a brand new Toyota product. I wouldn’t let anyone drive my truck out of pure embarrassment

If Toyota is certain this problem is from contamination found in the valve body, and torque converter, then the contamination will also be in the bottom of the transmission pan. It cannot go anywhere once it finds its way to the pan. If you could get a commitment from Toyota and the dealership to perform the necessary work if contamination is found, I would take the risk and have the dealer tech, drop the pan in your presence, so you can verify what they do, and it cannot be hidden from you. The tranny fluid cleans everything and flushes it.. of the contaminants are there, they eventually will find “low flow” low pressure places to hide. For instance: in a creek, debris will accumulate where water isn’t flowing as fast. Same applies to engine oil= sludge, and also transmission fluid= debris… once the contaminants find their way to the pan, they remain there until the pan is dropped. The contaminants can also hide where small ports are, and I suspect this is where the problem is- it is preventing solenoids from operating properly due to obstruction, or reducing flow to a circuit being used in the valve body.

@Gfenza89 Yep - and that is what I think some people don't understand. It isn't just feeling some shifts like other posters have suggested. Last week it shifted so hard into reverse that I looked in the mirror because I thought I had hit a light pole in a parking lot.

almost 12,000 miles on my truck and no issues so far
Exactly, I'm sitting @ just under 10K with one of the fault VIN's, and mine's been running like a friggen champ. In fact, had no issues racing all the idiots down from Sunrise point on i-17 this evening with this thing. Seems like a lot of salty peeps out there, I'm very content with mine.

My TrailHunter experience….slam Into reverse a few times and when shifting into park a couple times. My gear shifter also seemed very stiff, loaded with tension, when shifting from park. Did not have the rough shifts (1st-2nd). This was my experience under 4,000 miles.

Gas mileage has been good 21-22 mpg.

I’m now over 7,000 miles and everything seems to be very smooth, no recent slams and shifter is easy to move. The hybrid is also functioning better, engaging more often. Now I’m wondering why everything smoothed out? Contact points worn, smoothed out?

Recently returned from 7 day hunting trip. Muddy conditions, climbing muddy hill terrain, engaging 4 hi/4L/MTS multiple times and the performance was perfect. After this trip, 7 hour drive each way, I have more confidence in the truck.

Wish the initial experience had been better, then I’d have no concern in the back of my mind. As it is, I still think about possible failure, even when performing as expected.

Very strange indeed, just adds more mystery to these trucks

Toyota’s 2024 Tacoma Transmission Fix Didn’t Stop A Class Action Lawsuit
The lead plaintiff claims to have experienced a raft of transmission issues

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/11/class-action-goes-after-toyota-and-tacomas-faulty-transmission/

Well i guess this is a good thing since it will cast a big spotlight on the current Transmisson issues that so many guys are experiancing.
The article was by “carscoop “ also stated how Toyota just replaced parts with on hand deffective parts, so if im reading correct, those that had replacement parts installed can probably expect more issues , shame on toyota.
This will more then likely halt production, or all trucks put on hold.
I’m sure its got everything to do with the 2025 Tacoma not being rolled out yet! And it’s November!!

Mixed feelings. Sad for everyone who has the automatic tranny. But happy that I went to all the trouble to purchase from an out-of-state dealer a 6 speed manual.

I’m in contact with the guy who filed the lawsuit, he said he had taken his truck to the dealer and they just blew him off telling him it’s a normal characteristic of the truck, he claims the lawsuit is moving quickly. Myself and 8 others were brought up to the attorneys as customers who have brought their trucks in for service and told it was normal

@TacoFreak you've been quoted.
Strange to see something I posted to other Tacoma owners being quoted by the YouTube machine. I have seen that before but this is the first one for me. I am hardly a credible source, just someone with a truck he doesn't trust and far from alone.

Same here, drove to another state to snag my TRD Sport 6MT allocation and have been happy since. 10,000 miles and running strong!
