Yes, that LSPI and direct fuel injection are heavily linked. It's especially dangerous with a boosted motor.

Your engine oil should always be rated SN PLUS. You should not open your throttle fully at low RPM.

I'm using premium fuel and SN PLUS oil and never go WOT at low rpms.

I think it's a pointless risk to NOT use API SN+/ SP, but exact T24A-FTS engine from basically every other country's Toyotas approves as low as API SM. This is in 2023+ MY vehicles. I pulled the official owners manuals to look at oil grade recommendations and specs. This is in countries where API SP or ILSAC-GF6 is available, so it's not just a compromise for local availability.

The 91+ octane gas makes a pretty big difference in performance. I have a scanner showing reall time ignition timing, and you can see the engine retard the timing with 87 and advance it with 91-93 octane substantially.

52 cents more a gallon in Bay Area Costco for premium. 3.67 vs 4.19. 15gal = $7.80 more per fill up assuming some in reserve. Hard to justify, imo.

Personally ive been running 91 since after the first tank. Truck engine runs better. In my opinion anything boosted should run 91. When i had a bronco raptor that truck reacted really well in my opinion on 91. This one not so much. Bronco though spooled much much better. Id have to drive it again on 87 to know again. Kinda went right into it
I run Shell v-power 91 octane almost exclusively. Did thee exact same on my 2006 Taco v6 as well.

I am sold on 91 , just runs better , smoother ,responsive af
yeah Costco gas is a deal, but I worry it's just Arco gas with their limited detergent additives , as Toyota says to use high quality fuel that contain high detergent levels to keep the valves backs clean of carbon build up . I have been using Techron additive for years in all my Toyotas over the last 25 years when i fuel with Arco type gas stations

then there is the Toyota injector cleaner that the tech's use at some service intervals , u can buy that on Amazon
