iForce Max Creeping forward after stopping

Has anyone noticed an issue when stopping at a stop light, after coming to a complete stop, vehicle will want to slowly creep forward and you need to press a little harder on the brake pedal. If you don't pay attention, you will creep into the vehicle in front of you. I am in the TSB range.

Yes. It’s all over this forum. It happens on my truck. Still don’t know if it’s transmission problem or hybrid system charging. But I test drove another hybrid and it was not doing that and I’m in the TSB range just barely.

Yep, mine has done it from the beginning. I am at the very beginning of the TSB range.

That is interesting and the first time I have heard about this. I don't see anything like that in my truck, at least so far. When I am stopped the ICE is usually off, so creeping would have to come from the hybrid motor. AFAIK the hybrid system can only charge when the ICE is running or the truck is regen braking.

I will have to see what my truck does when I stop and release the brake. I guess I assumed that it would creep a bit like any automatic, but I have never experimented with that. And yeah - I am in the TSB range too.

I have to actively have my foot on the brake, and press slightly harder than normal braking to keep it from jumping forward. If I don't have my foot on the brake it will continue rolling forward after coming to a full stop.

Utilizing the brake “Hold” function at traffic lights eliminates this from occurring.

I mean, if you idle and take your foot off the brake it will go slowly forward is that what you mean? I need to keep my foot on the brake but no harder than any other vehicle. I do feel something when slowly creeping into a stop but im pretty sure thats a downshift or regen/hydro brakes handing off.

mine does this as well, but I think it is emulating what a non hybrid automatic would do. In all the automatics I've had if you take your foot off the brake it creeps forward.

It’s the little jolt coming to a stop that’s weird but again - I’m in TSB range and I drove a hybrid that is not and it didn’t do that

Hybrid owner here as well. I’ve noticed this when coming to a very slow stop. It will gently stop, then start creeping forward a little unless you apply more brake.

I just assumed to had to do with how it manages regenerative braking coupled with the normal brakes. So, when you “stop”, regenerative braking stops, and the false “idle” from the electric motor starts, and at the same time, the actual brakes aren’t applied enough to keep it from moving forward once that kicks in.

No- if I brake normally, to a stop- and if I hold that same level of braking, the truck will surge forward just after it reaches a full stop- like it's shifting the transmission, or the regen is doing something. When I reach a full stop, i have to hold -more- brake than i needed to stop to keep it from surging forward in the last foot or two. I've got the muscle memory now, but it really makes driving other vehicles awkward now, cause i tend to jam on the brakes at the last second.

Yea I think this correct. Unfortunately, our Rav4Prime has none of these tendencies- it brakes very smoothly with none of the last second surge- making me really disappointed with how the Tacoma manages the transition.

Yes, but that doesn't make it right. To me as an ASE L1, L2, L3 Master Technician, this is a safety issue and needs to be properly diagnosed, reported and possibly issue a safety recall. #NHTSA
