Recent news suggests that Honda and Nissan might be discussing a potential merger. Many speculate this bold move is tied to the rapid rise of electric vehicles (EVs). Some articles even claim that the merger could be a strategic effort to counter the growing dominance of EVs in the market.

As two iconic brands that have long been leaders in internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEs), this potential partnership has everyone talking. Is it a game-changing strategy to take on the EV market? Or is it simply a way to stay relevant in a rapidly changing industry?

What’s Your Take?
*Are EVs truly the future, or do ICEs still hold strong advantages?
*What are the biggest strengths and weaknesses of EVs and ICEs in your opinion?
*If Honda and Nissan merge, could they become serious competitors in the EV space?
Let’s hear your thoughts! 🚗💡 Whether you’re team EV or team ICE—or somewhere in between—we’d love to know where you stand in this debate.

My guess is this will never happen. I hadn't heard the rumor until I read this but both are way too large to merge. Both internally and externally with Government not allowing it.

Nissan is worth pennies on the dollar. Hondas attempt will likely cause a bidding war.

Don't really see what's in it for Honda, other than maybe some economies of scale. Nissan has fallen a long way from it's peak and in every category where they overlap the Honda product is class-leading and the Nissan is close to dead last.

I guess Nissan has some EV tech in the Leaf, but that hardly seems worth buying the whole company for. The Leaf is not a leader in the EV space, it's an also-ran.

EV?

If I could buy a Tacoma with the same performance (including range) as the current model–at the same price, I'd buy one.

I'd love to plug my Tacoma in at my house and get rid of the mechanical complexity of a gasoline engine.

Yeah, as much as they're calling it a "merger", this is a hostile takeover to save Nissan from completely dying. I am curious how they restructure to take on Nio, BYD, etc. I don't think their approach will be to focus on ICE; I think it's an attempt to pool resources to develop more competitive EVs, while sharing platforms that will reduce overall costs.

Together they will still be smaller than Toyota (in terms of global sales). The alternative is Nissan disappearing. I don't think the government will stand in the way of this.

They with others have a big drop in their China market where a lot of people don't seem to know that is the biggest auto market by far. In a domestic sense, it is generally not good for an auto maker to fail just for manufacturing capacity relative to defense. Those seem like reasons for a merger to be allowed.

There might be rumors about many details, but the two firms were already known to be in talks of collaboration and likely this.
