Hey all,

Just (finally) got a 2024 Hybrid Off Road with a bunch of options. Picked it up today, looks great!

Pulling up to my house, as I slowed down, my son and I both noticed a kind of weird noise at low idle speeds. I took the truck back out tonight to just putter around and play with things like the headlight tilt, etc, and noticed it more prominently. It happens exactly as I slow from 20+ down to 19 MPH, and continues until I basically stop, or get going above 20 MPH again. I made a youtube video hoping the sound would come though, and it does... it's not obnoxiously loud, but was enough for my son and I to both look at each other as we neared the house, and now that I listen for it, I can hear it every time.

Is this just the woo woo ghost I'll need to get to know and love, or maybe a larger issue?

I found one thread on another forum, but for a 2016: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/19-mph-whooping-sound-resolved.494527/

It’s the pedestrian warning speaker. Normal for a hybrid

wait are you serious?

Holy smokes, googling this now, I can't believe this is a thing... Thanks for the reply, this is going to take some getting used to, but happy it's not something misaligned or anything.

yep, it's this device, seen from just above the license plate:

Removing it throws an error that you can say "ok! got it" but it will remain on your screen. cannot be dismissed:

few shots of the device in question:

I upgraded mine by removing the facia, and pouring some epoxy in the speaker, letting it cure overnight, then rerouted the cable, and double sided VHB'd it to a peice of trim plastic inside the engine cavity, right below the horn:

it now works way better, and no error.

Using tow haul mode or move the shifter to the left out of drive disables the hybrid mode.

There is also a speaker on top of the rearmost frame crossmember (the one that mounts the tow hitch reciever)
To warn close by pedestrians when you are reversing.
