I'm running into a situation where the driver's door on my '25 Tacoma just randomly locks. I've had the truck for about three weeks and it's happened a handful of times. It's not consistent and it does it with my keys and phone in the truck. Example: Stop to get gas, get out of truck & shut door (auto lock is not on), fill up with gas, grab door handle to get back in and the driver's door is locked. The other three doors don't lock. I can walk around and press the unlock button on the passenger door, the drivers door unlocks and I'm good to go. I can also unlock the door from the Toyota app (I started grabbing my phone when I get out, just in case it locks all four doors). This is my third Tacoma. The '06 never did it, the '16 did it ever so infrequently in the 9 years I had it, but this seems excessive in the '25. I asked the dealer about it this morning when I dropped it off to have some accessories put on, and the guy claimed to know nothing about it. However, I had a '24 loaner about six months ago, that did the same thing, and when I mentioned it when returning the truck, the rep helping me said it was a pretty known thing with the new Tundras. Has anyone experienced this in their Tacoma and found a fix?

Does this only happen when you go to grab the handle?

My thinking is that when you're grabbing the handle, the keys (or phone if you use that) are either nearby and/or in the truck while it is unlocked and when you go to grab the handle its locking. This has happened to me quite a few times when I've left it unlocked and then I go to grab the handle and get in.

Orrr I could be completely wrong.

You're not entirely wrong. The keys and/or phone are in the truck when this happens. However, the door isn't locking when I grab the door handle. It's already locked. I've used the "touch the handle to lock it" as I've walked away with the keys in my hand. I can hear the locking mechanism engage when I do that. In these instances when it locks on its own, I never hear that locking mechanism engage. It's just completely locked when I go to open the door.

Sounds like something is stuck in the mechanism that unlocks it when you put it in park is my guess. All the other doors are unlocking, and when you get out the handle is overriding the driver door lock, and when you close the door it is still locked. Either that or the manual lock (not the switch) is getting activated, locking just that door as you're getting out.

The truck should not be allowed to lock with the keys in it which is why I'm leaning towards the door never actually unlocking. I have not tested the manual lock but I imagine that would be a possible way to override the safety.

When I leave the fob in the cab the doors will not lock. When the rig is running the only way to lock the doors is with the manual key in my '24.

That's what I thought too. I'm not sure how it's being locked with any type of key being in the cab.

Right? If I lock the doors, even with the manual button on the door, while the fob is in the truck and shut the door, it automatically unlocks. Thus my frustration and confusion. :D

Happening to my 2024 OR also. It has happened three times now, two of which had the keys inside the vehicle. One time it happened in the service drive of the dealership. I pulled in, shut the truck off, left the keys in the cup holder and shut the door. They asked me for the key, told them in the cupholder, they replied impossible, the truck is locked. The back door remained unlocked. They had no idea, and could not figure it out. Said it was an anomaly. It happened again later that day in my driveway.

The manual lock I am talking about is the key in the fob. I remove that key, lock the door with it, put it in my pocket. Then have to use that key to unlock the door. Have to remember to put the key back in the fob. Hope this helps.
