Only reason I am thinking about a Tacoma is I hope the transmission is built in Japan. I have had problems in my 20/20 F-150 with the automatic transmission built by General Motors. Toyota has such a reputation for reliability that my 07 Ford F150 has just had half spark plugs and brakes for over 230,000 miles. I want a reliable truck!!!

The historic manufacturer of Toyota transmissions has been AISIN. I don't know if that is true for the Tacoma. AISIN is a Toyota company.

Your are correct. Transmissions from Japan and engines from Alabama.

I asked a buddy who works for Toyota. His answer, "as far as I know." So yes, AISIN Japan for the transmissions.

Plus, the transmission issues of last year had nothing to do with the unit itself. It's a sound design. In that case, external contaminates being introduced into the unit is causing the failures.

Yep - Aisin is partly Toyota owned and makes most of their transmissions. They also make transmissions for a lot of other companies, like the RAMs with Cummins diesels.

The transmissions in Tacos are made in Japan, so anyone can screw up this stuff anymore it seems.

They probably do have US plants. Someone on the forum told me they were made in Japan, but he could have been wrong.

I can find a lot of info online, but so far nothing specific about where these transmissions were made.
