I removed the picture it had my plate in it. But it is on the tow truck.
I must be missing something (I'm old), but why do people block out their license plate when they post pictures; it's visible to anyone when you're driving, or parked, and it's pretty hard to run a trace on a plate, so what's up with that?

I think there’s two different rear ends on the 4th gen, the LC, 4R hybrid and taco hybrid would share the tundra, non hybrids have a smaller rear diff

Because there’s weird stalkers and doxxers on the internet. Sometimes people get mad at what a person says and search through your posts for any hint to find you name and address. These weirdos would be happy to run a trace so that they can mess with you. Lots and lots of stories about this stuff.

This! Online opens up to so many more people who are doing who knows what on their computer. Just take a look at comments on videos on your tube.

Thanks for that info, which makes perfect sense. It is very Toyota like to have different driveline components on one platform, depending on the use of the vehicle and engine power.

I think the engines come from Alabama but I have no idea where rear ends or transmission are assembled. Hopefully someone here knows.

Ok slight update. Was able to reproduce the sound with the dealer. It is possible it not related to the rear diff and that could be a red herring. Said it sounded like a heat shield is coming loose and rattling on some part that is rotating.

the sound gets way louder as you slow down but he hit the gas and it totally disappeared for the rest of the test drive.

WTF kind of world are we living in when people do shit like that? Could be the reason I live alone in the boonies and only see people once a week when I drive to town to get my mail and groceries for the week! Thanks for your reply and be careful out there!

We live in a world where people get this information and swat you.

If you don't know what that is, it means they get your info and call the police and make up some story that ends up getting swat to your house. Then you get your door kicked in and raided. Has happened many many times to many people.

So after we test drove it and heard the sound. They put it on the lift at the dealership and came back and said “shrug”. Nothing looked like it was loose in a way to hit anything in the drive line.

They are keeping the truck this week and calling Toyota corporate. They may drain and inspect the diff idk. But they now are back to looking at rotating components front to back. This dealer has been incredible through all this. Prioritizing us and our situation. Detaching their foreman to help and providing us a replacement taco as a loaner.

My family made it to vacation. Nothing more important in life than not disappointing your kids.

Another followup, More specific info on the issue.

At ~70mph there was a faint ping/rattle we thought it sounded like thin metal rubbing on the tire. The weird thing is at 70mph when it started it was there but not crazy scary loud. It got louder and louder as we slowed to 40mph and we were looking for somewhere to pull off the highway. It was violently loud. He then gave it some gas to move over toward the exit and like snapping fingers it went totally silent again and was silent the whole way back to the dealer.

any ideas are helpful, I showed him the post on the missing brake pin/connector that is on the forum as something to check.

I've heard of swatting, and have pretty much lost all faith in "humanity".
