Extended warranty?

I just put down deposit on a Sport 4WD today. My first Tacoma, I am so excited. Even with its reliability reputation, I am considering an extended warranty for the non-power train components (my purchase comes with lifetime limited powertrain warranty). What are people's thoughts/experiences with such an extended warranty? Especially with first year of new gen. Thanks in advance.

No one knows how reliable they are yet. But you can get the same factory warranty way cheaper online from other dealers.

I'm thinking about it as well. I wasn't going to because it's a Toyota and I shouldn't need it, but it is a first year truck. I'm sure they'll try to sell me a 3rd party warranty but I think if I go that way it will be Toyota.

I'm in the same boat, not sure if it's worth it. I thought the powertrain warranty was 60,000 miles

It is. I'm more worried about all the new electronics. I'm sure most came over from the Tundra, but who knows.

Factory is 60k miles. My dealer adds a lifetime limited power train.

Decent dealer, yes. No markup. And their non-negotiable add ons are things I want.

Great question. Extended warranties are done with finance dept, so I’m trying to get an estimate.

I do not. My dealer is part of the Hendrick group, so I’m hoping they share costs across their locations. All of the other dealers in my area were marking up and had anywhere from two to $4000 in nonnegotiable add-ons. That was before closing costs.

Not sure I got the lowest price… But the retail price for 10 year 125 was $4100. Lithia Toyota Medford offered five other extras that were given at cost. Brought the base warranty of 10 years 1 25,000 miles to 2500 and added for the same 4100: paint protection, dent protection, Cloth protection, wheel protection, and at least a couple others. I can’t remember right now. Overall I’m satisfied because I know things will go wrong and I will be happy to cash in on those additional warranties down the road.
