Leveling kit and warranty

Hey y’all was wondering if anyone here has had any issues with their warranty/ work after installing leveling kit etc. I have heard vague stories about these kinds of things in the past but I don’t have first hand experience, the only other manufacturer warrantied car I’ve had before was a RAV4 and well there wasn’t any need to interfere with that. But anyway I am considering getting the leveling kit from from rough country.

Read up here. There is nothing they can do unless the collar specifically damages a direct component i.e. the shock, coil etc etc.

I actually asked my dealership the day I bought it about what the situation is with leveling kits + suspension and they told me that anything that I do to the suspension will void the warranty period. So I would check with whoever you purchased your truck from.

The burden would be on the dealership (TMC) to show that the modifications directly led to whatever failure was being repaired. They can't just say you had your truck modified so your warranty is void. See post #2.

Sure, there's a lot of information out there that suggests you are good to go; however, it really comes down to how much hassle you're willing to endure if it's declined.

At the time of purchase, I met with the Service lead at my Toyota dealer and he said if you have a Toyota dealer install the part(s) it's covered under warranty. If I did it myself, it would only void the suspension element that were altered - so the strut, upper/ lower control arm. It would not effect any other parts that are covered on the truck

Bingo. Now the question is do you want to pay an Indy shop X or the dealer to do it for X times about 40 to have the warranty coverage. That would be the difference.

So will a Toyota dealer install and aftermarket part? Say I want westcott design leveling kit. Will they install it? I’m not sure if Toyota has come out with their own for new Tacoma

Yes, they will install it and I know there is a TRD suspension kit, but it will be well over $1000 maybe $2000
It will be expensive to have the dealer do the install, labor and alignment

I did my own install with the Peak Suspension system, cost was $480, alignment at the local shop was $150 (and you will need an alignment) Took about 2 hours to install

Expect a dealer to be in the $2000+ price range

Before I took delivery of my new Tacoma I had the dealer install the leveling kit which I provided (they wanted to charge me for 3 hours but after showing the estimated install time on the leveling kit) they only charged me and hour
I also had them install the after market rims which I provided but I purchase the tires through them (they matched the price of the tire shop)
the reason I did it this way as not to void the warranty. I did ask prior to getting it done and their answer was that like mentioned above if an item fails because of the leveling kit it would not be covered under warranty

hopefully I never have to challenge it
