There are reasons that you don't teach a pig to sing. It just wastes your time and irritates the pig. Tariffs are a complex and very useful economic tool. The Canadian and Mexican governments will continue to lessen the 200+% tariffs that they have on American products and meet other reasonable demands. Both of their economies will be crushed without the US consumer market, and it won't take long.

As I understand it, only non usmca compliant autos will have a 25% tariff.

those that are USMCA compliant will have 0% tariff

For Canada and Mexico, the existing fentanyl/migration IEEPA orders remain in effect, and are unaffected by this order. This means USMCA compliant goods will continue to see a 0% tariff, non-USMCA compliant goods will see a 25% tariff, and non-USMCA compliant energy and potash will see a 10% tariff.

As I said above, why the belief in this vs the other one?

honestly asking both of you
Multiple news articles in the last 24 hours stating what this news article says and business journals. Now if you want to believe anything else go ahead but for now I will stick with the facts.

again, the article that was posted is actually sourced by Goldman.

This is pay walled. Can someone actually post the content? What is the source? How are you determining this is fact?

“multiple other sites reporting this” hasn’t meant something is true in a decade lol

Are you asking why i would believe the Nikkei article, instead of KTLA?
No, I’m asking for you to post the content of the pay walled article you claim is obviously more true than the other that is sourced

im not going to believe titles of news stories…

Oh.. didn't realize.. here, watch this:
this isn’t confirmation of anything either way to me. Kirk himself is using terms such as “apparently” when speaking a lot about it.

I appreciate you actually posting the full article for me though! All I wanted

Surely prices will increase, how much no one knows…

likely going to see Powell drop rates to keep the ship afloat for a few years until recovery.

Again as I read this, if for instance the Tacoma meets the requirements of USMCA
there is no tariff.

Under the USMCA, to qualify for preferential tariff treatment, automotive goods must meet specific rules of origin, including a Regional Value Content (RVC) requirement of 75%, a Labor Value Content (LVC) requirement of 40-45% sourced from high-wage facilities, and a steel and aluminum requirement of at least 70% North American origin

I am no expert on this by any means

i don’t see this a stretch for the Tacoma at least, it may already be compliant.

if you were a car manufacturer and manufscturing in Canada or Mexico I believe you would have been aiming for this goal all along.

now if you are buying a Land Cruiser made in Japan, that is another story.

and if Toyota decides to spread the tariffs across the lineup that might make the Tacoma more expensive

It is complicated. The parts value built in the USA (Drive Train, etc...) are not Tariffed. Most of the expensive parts, I believe, are USMCA compliant. There are multiple articles stating that Toyota is not going to raise prices, so we'll see. I feel we'll see a deal with Mexico/Canada soon anyway.

IT'S NOT NEWS, IT'S OPINIONS MOST OF THE TIME.
And we all know what they say about opinions... That said, you're spot on. I remember many years ago (when I lived back east) when one of the local news stations said were gonna get a monstrous amount of snow and everyone should go stock up on milk, bread and eggs. All the fools did. Like sheep. Only had a dusting.
