2024 Tacoma Fuel Door won’t close

2024 Tacoma TRD Sport premium with fuel door release.

picked up the truck 2 nights ago.
Fuel door is now always open. Can’t close it shut. Mechanism doesn’t work.

Any suggestions BESIDES taking back to the dealer for repair? Anyone else have a similar issue?

There’s no mechanism for the fuel door. Pull to open / push to close. Only hybrids I think it is gets a “mechanism”. Are you sure you put the fuel cap back on before trying to close the door ?

Do you have a hybrid? I would try releasing with the button again and being firm with closing the door, kinda like an already latched door not closing

I have the exact same problem. 2024 TRD Off-road IMax hybrid. Fuel door broke in the first week of purchase. It won’t close and I get the fuel door open warning.

took it back to the dealer and they said the fuel door needs replaced but the fuel door is on back order. Still waiting after 3 weeks. Frustrating …

Being back ordered indicates that you are probably not the first owner with this problem.

Same fuel door issue on my 2024 PRO. First time it happened the dealer got it closed and it worked fine for a few months. Gassed up yesterday and won't close. Heading to the dealer after work.

Aways a personal debate on a locking fuel door. Do I want some dirtbag ripping open my locked plastic door and causing more damage or just let the dirtbag steal the gas without causing damage. As a suggestion, bypass the locking mechanism with the non locking latched door if that is even possible. I leave my house back sliding door unlocked and let the alarm take care of security. I figure this is better than having dirtbag throw a deck chair through the door. Sad that we even have to think about these things. I had a gas station attendant rip my locking gas door open and brake the latch once as he grabbed the door before I could shut the car off and hit the release. For those asking why, used to live in NJ and not allowed to pump your own gas. That’s a forum thread for another day🫢.

Just got mine fixed yesterday, after waiting 2 months for the part.

They removed and replaced the locking mechanism. It has a small motor on the other side that allows it to turn and lock the fuel door. They replaced the entire mechanism, not the fuel door.

Took them about 3 hours at the dealership.
