I’ve got a different opinion. Having more layers of paint than normal by getting a repaint will last much longer.
Not typically the case. Thicker paint has a higher tendency to chip.

So the dealer is required to disclose any shipping damage repaired by the dealer that exceeded a certain dollar amount. That amount varies by state law. If the damage happened at the factory and was corrected at the factory then there is no disclosure required. If the repair was done at the port then that also falls on the factory as the port is considered final point of assembly and would be a no disclosure needed.

I had a client car that didn’t show any signs of paint issues at the time that we delivered the car to him. After a few months of sitting in the sun the customer brought the car back to us and showed us mottling which appeared as spots or stains in the paint. The car was also silver which is hard to touch up. The mottling was from paint shrinkage where the metallic in the paint moved during paint shrinkage from the metal getting hot during sun exposure.

After filing a case with the factory it was discovered that shipping damage had been repaired and they did not disclose it because the vehicle was repaired at the port. The manufacturer ended up ordering a new vehicle for the customer and buying back the damaged vehicle.
mike,
I see your in Monterey, I’m dealing with City Toyota in Daily City Ca. They are the Largest dealer in the Bay Area. We just got the ball rolling but I’m going to go for a Buyback/Replace. I love the truck so really want a new one.

It should never have left the factory, and the dealer should have rejected it. That’s a buy back in my book.

I hope you can quickly arrive at an agreement. Be careful not to use the words legal, lawyer, or attorney. They will immediately shut the door and force you to take the legal route va working it out.

Very true Mike. In my experience even mentioning lemon lawing it will shut things down right now.

I think I would demand a new truck with that crappy paint job. The amount of time/work it would take to properly sand, prep, paint that to factory specs isn't worth it.

I had similar issues with my celestial silver paint job. The dealership was very accommodating. They called in a Toyota representative who examined the paint job and agreed that it had what he called, "mottling." Not sure if I spelled that word correctly. Anyways, he took an instrument and measured paint thickness all over the truck. In the end Toyota offered to repaint the affected sections at a local body shop. In my case the botched paint job wasn't as bad as what I see in your pictures. When the body shop guy told me that even though he could definitely do the job, his paint wouldn't hold up as long term as the original. I decided to live with the defective paint job and asked for compensation equal to the cost of the repainting estimate. Toyota declined and offered me a lame maintenance package, which I accepted.

Well, it was certainly your decision but I think you let them off too easy.

This shit should be obvious at the factory. They never should have shipped the truck.

Exactly, and after a total fail at factory QC they should have replaced your truck, since you can only have a factory paint job once. That is what you paid for and had every right to expect.

I have the same color on my Limited and I also have the same issue, mostly noticeable above my rear wheel fenders.
