I have had my truck now for almost a month. ATT keeps saying I need to sign up for a data plan soon. I have not used the hotspot in the truck but what else is this for or will I not be able to do if I don’t sign up. I am confused!

From what I understand, it means your truck will no longer be a wifi hotspot. My plan just expired as well and I have no idea whether I needed it/used it when I had the trial so I guess I won't miss it?

I ended up paying for it for a year, for when my daughter is in the truck. It actually gets better service than my phone. I’ve been in dead spots with my phone and ended up turning off Bluetooth and connected to the trucks internet and had a great connection.

Can someone explain how this works? There's a free trial, then AT&T will charge you? Does it matter if your regular cell carrier is say, Verizon?

Is it unlimited? Is there a cap?

Thanks!

Kind of like XM radio....if you want the service then pay them directly for it and pick the plan that you want. Except now you will get to pay ATT for one line and then Verizon for your regular phones.

Thanks. It sounds like Verizon also has Toyota as a manufacturer they work with on in-car wifi. Might explore that option.
Where do you see that? I only see AT&T listed.

Is the AT&T data plan required for the Toyota app to function correctly?

Yes, you get the free cellular trial and it's through AT&T. Basically, it's a data plan for your truck so you can connect to it via wifi and then out to the internet over AT&T cellular. They will give you unlimited data, but will throttle you down when you get to a certain limit. This is in addition to whatever cellular carrier you use for your phone. And your probably stuck with AT&T on the Taco as that's probably the only hardware Toyota put on your truck.

Honestly, if you already have a cell phone, you probably have wifi hotspot on it, which is the same as what you're getting on the Taco. Like someone said, you may get better reception, but maybe not depending on location.

This is an individual matter. In my case Verizon is a far superior carrier where I spend most of my time so I hotspot my phone. For any paid cellular services start with the carrier best for where you are and go.

I also disabled all the communication per the sticker that comes on the dashboard when new. That may well be why I did not see those prompts.
