For the auto high beams to work, you have to have the high-beams arm turned off (regular beams setting) AND the automatic high beams button on the dash turned on. However on my wife’s Highlander you have to have the high-beams arm turned on (high beams setting) AND have the auto high beams button on the dash turned on. I much prefer the latter. Is there a toggle on the Tacoma for this? Perhaps buried in the setting somewhere?

Toyota was always very consistent about controls, which was great when switching between vehicles. I guess the tech is changing so fast that consistency is out the window.

The logic seems reversed to me too, but it is easy to deal with. Just toggle the auto high beans on and off with the switch on the dash. Then you can manually engage high beams when you want in a conventional manner with the control stock. I would be surprised if this can be changed.

It can't be changed, as far as I know and I actually think it makes sense the way Toyota programs it, to be honest.

I think the function might have changed between the 2020 & 2023 model years. My 2020 Avalon worked as your wife's Highlander but my wife's 2023 Rav4 works like our Tacoma.
