So this happened tonight! My 7000-miles old Tacoma TRD Offroad suffered a head-on collision with a Dodge Ram that resulted in my beloved Tacoma landing on its side. The Dodge was going quite fast when it occurred.
I felt the need to share this on here because I was able to climb out and walk away from it. I will not claim that I am completely uninjured, as it may be too early to tell just yet. I’ve been checked out, x-rayed, etc. All seems good so far. I’m definitely sore all over, particularly around my ribs (likely from the seatbelt). But look, the fact is that it definitely could’ve been MUCH worse. People have died from collisions like this. And during that weird slow-motion experience that people get in these situations, it crossed my mind that I might’ve been in the process of dying right then. It was all happening so quickly. Once it stabilized on its side, I had a momentary realization that I could move around. I felt fully conscious and alert. So I managed to unhook my seatbelt and make my way to the passenger door facing up, opened it, and was able to climb my way out.
Now, I’m not going to pretend that this truck could magically save your life in every possible scenario. But after what I experienced tonight, I firmly believe that these trucks are, in fact, extremely safe vehicles. It is designed to protect you, and it certainly did its job admirably for me tonight.
