Wondering if anyone has found a case or skin for the key? Just staying in my pocket or work computer bag the paint is coming off from minor wear.

I would assume Tesla and Toyota are using different technologies to detect the card. I assume that the Toyota/Lexus ones have to have a battery which means it is broadcasting some low power signal whereas the Tesla one the car is doing all the work by looking for the card constantly.

I hope to rip my card apart and see if I can put it in a waterproof band like Rivian has. That way if I'm out adventuring I don't have to worry about the card or fob
This is correct, with the tesla card you have to place the card near the B-pillar to lock/unlock the door and you must place the card on the center console to drive the vehicle. In some ways the Toyota card is superior, you don't even have to take it out or your wallet! I think the Toyota key-card is way undervalued. I really dislike having the large key fob in my pocket, the key-card is the way to go.

Does anyone know if it is waterproof? As someone who surfs, it's tricky to bring a key in your wetsuit because the water will damage most of the current keys. You also can't use a lockbox because of the proximity sensors. Just trying to figure out if this is a good option for bringing in the water. I know the one made by Tesla is waterproof.
Toyota lists a very simple button sequence that disables the proximity functionality of the fob.
You could do that to disable proximity, lock box it, then re enable once you've returned.

If a tiny dry bag isn't an option, I've done double bagging in freezer grade ziplocks successfully. But thinking even a small "phone" pouch could be enough for you if you can stash it without irritation under your suit

So, for those that are still curious and don't have one, here are your actual dimensions:

2-5/64" w x 3-1/8" t x 1/8" d
or
52.84mm x 79.11mm x 3.24mm

as measured by a micrometer

It fits perfectly in an Apple wallet. The Toyota logo shows though the thumb hole in the back which also makes it easy to use as a grip point to slide out if needed. I use mine stuck to the back of my phone when I go to the gym. Works great. Too bad no buttons on them though so you have to use the handle touches.

Tesla key card is a rfid chip with coil antenna which is why it requires you to contact one of two touch points on the car. It’s not meant to be the primary method of driving as that is handled by the app. It’s a backup to the app. I think I’ve used mine just a handful of times in the 4 years I’ve had mine.

Was the card key a part of a package? My dealer wasn't aware that it was an option.
Why does Toyota allow people to be dealers when they don’t know about the product that they are selling. Shouldn’t that be part of your job to study all the features of new models so you can answer question that customers have? When I am getting ready to buy a new vehicle, I find out everything about it before going to the dealership and I have always known more about it than the dealer. I just can’t understand why you wouldn’t want to know everything about a product that you’re trying to sell.
