2024 Tacoma CarPlay Dropping Fix - iOS 18.4.1 Update 1744825869257-pa

I just completed the Apple iOS update 18.4.1 which is suppose to fix the Apple CarPlay dropping issue for certain vehicles which people have mentioned over the last couple of months. I was wondering how many new Tacoma owners are experiencing the CarPlay dropping issue.

Apple first released iOS 18.4 at the end of March, a little ahead of its expected April debut.

But as often happens, the new release introduced some bugs that Apple needed to quickly fix.

iOS 18.4.1 is that bug fix release, offering minor changes to the iPhone software.

Here are Apple’s short but sweet release notes:

This update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses a rare issue that prevents wireless CarPlay connection in certain vehicles.
In other words, there are no new features here to be found.

However, installing iOS 18.4.1 should hopefully make your iPhone run smoother than it was before, including solving the wireless CarPlay issue some have experienced.

If you held off installing iOS 18.4 until Apple shipped a bug fix update, then there are actually a lot of new goodies to check out, including Control Center upgrades, Apple Photos changes, a handy recipe feature, and more.

I am not sure if any Toyota software updates are also required to address the dropping issue.

On a rare occasion, while music was playing, I was noticing a slight intermittent loss of connectivity. Since the update have not experienced any additional losses.

While I rarely experienced a failure to load up CarPlay, it has happened a small handful of times. This morning when I got in my Trailhunter, the screen started an update that lasted less than 1 minute. That appeared to be a Toyota update, but it could have been other than. No issues today, but far too early to tell based on my past experiences.

I have never had the dropping issue, always on wireless CarPlay and update IOS generally on the day it's released

iOS 18.4 caused a lot of CarPlay issues, and many Toyota owners had them. Hopefully 18.4.1 fixed that problem, which I avoided by not installing 18.4 until that was resolved. People on Apple forums starting reporting this almost as soon as 18.4 rolled out, which is why I waited.

Thanks, I recently have noticed the dropping of carplay after my 18.4 update. Will update to 18.4.1 tonight.
