a parking pawl is not part of the brakes. It’s in the transmission and all automatics have it. To that point, do I worry about a parking pawl failing or wearing out - never! Should the automatic parking brake be used at all times - Yes logic of using a parking brake to save a pawl in the transmission is absolute nonsense. Using a parking brake to maintain your brake system is what makes sense.There is no pawl in the 2024 Tacoma. The Parking "brake" is just a motor that compresses the rear brake pads against the rotor.
