I installed mine today in preparation for my VanTrue E360 dash cam that ships next month.

So easy even a caveman can do itšŸ˜

It took me a whole 3 minutes from start to finish after watching the video. The look is very sanitary. This product is an exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks Dongar!!!

Ok y'all I'm going to embarrass myself on the internet. Is there any reason to think the relatively new USB-C PD cable from Blackvue wouldn't work natively with the Pro? Do I need anything in the middle to step up/down/convert something? https://blackvuenorthamerica.com/pr...-cable-usb-c-dash-cam-parking-mode-cable-copy
Thanks for the heads up! I havenā€™t heard about this but there would be no issues using thisā€¦ the BlackVue input is a simple 12V and our PRO adapter allows 12V. Note on the BlackVue page it says it doesnā€™t support parking mode, but I think they probably did this assuming (correctly) that USB-C ports in your vehicle arenā€™t powered 24/7. The Dongar PRO module was designed to allow this.

@Mini2nut let me know how the E360 goes! I got to see the unit at SEMA and tbh itā€™s much heftier than I was hoping..definitely a little hefty to use as an action cam, as theyā€™re pitching. Vantrue has made some generally great cameras nonetheless.

@ChrisC regarding Nexar. Their OBD adapter is just a USB-C adapter hooked up to the OBD port, which has constant-power. It basically achieves the same thing as Dongar PRO which also supplies USB-C.

@sunfm so I checked with my shipping rep and it sounds like the Canadapost strike means timely passage of imports canā€™t be guaranteedā€¦so it was removed as an option until itā€™s resolved. USPS uses Canadapost as a final mile courier so unfortunately it would have the same issue. Iā€™m asking them to ship some units to Amazon Canada tomorrow so if you wait a week or two that would probably be the cheapest way for you to get it

Got the Dongar Pro installed with my Viofo A229 Pro today. I had the Dongar Pro adapter on Timed mode and left the dash cam recording as normal as I went in to grocery shop for about an hour. That's probably not long enough to worry about battery drainage but so far it's working as advertised.

I did not turn on the dash cam's parking mode this time. The A229 Pro has different parking modes (time lapsed, activity, and low bit rate video). What are the benefits to using one of these parking modes as oppose to just letting the dash cam record as if the car was running? I'm guessing it uses less memory but is that all?

Fellow Canadian here, living in Kelowna Bc and for comparison my shipping was 34$. So maybe aim for that range in the budget. Hope it helps. Cheers

Just got my dongar in the mail. Has anyone had an issue with their dongar squealing/whistling? I know this sounds odd but whenever mine has power I get this noise. Straight out of the box. I've already engaged support and waiting on a reply but figured I'd see if anyone else has had this issue.

@RigidYota congratulations on having really good hearing! There's a slight coil whine when the adapter outputs in the 300mA-650mA range which is a byproduct of normal operation. The whine is only at that operation range and in fact goes completely away at higher power (plug in an iPhone, laptop, or more powerful dashcam and see for yourself). We received a few messages about it and we're going to redesign the circuit with a different type of capacitor to eliminate and I'm happy to replace it as soon as we finish the next batch. I know it's not a real solution but if you want an immediate fix, choosing a more power hungry dashcam will eliminate the noise.

Ok, last question before I hit the buy button. I am planning on buying the Garmin mini 3. I will be subscribing to their vault and my truck has the WiFi subscription. I will be using the live view parking mode that the mini 3 has. My question, with using the Dongar pro connection will that be all I need to use to make all the functions I described above work? The mini 3 has a parking mode cord connection as a separate accessory. Do I need that or is that all taken care of with the Dongar pro? I know your cord covers constant power but what about the parking mode cord that garmin says is needed.
Thanks again !

@RigidYota I can also hear this annoying whine, I purchased the Dongar Type A off Amazon yesterday and a new Dash cam, I just finished the install about 1hr ago. For anyone looking to purchase the Dongar for the 4th GEN Tacoma I would definitely hold off the noise is definitely noticeable, unless you drive with music volume on 50 go for it to each there own. I am considering getting a factory toyota dash cam and returning the Dongar if I can not get a replacement that eliminates the whine.

Good to know. I will now wait till they fix the issue. Canā€™t stand high pitched noises.
What dash cam did you buy?
