Engine oil change / differential fluid change look pretty easy

I did some crawling around under my truck a little this morning while I was installing some accessories.

Looks like oil changes are going to be pretty painless on this truck.

1. Drop middle skid plate, drain oil
2. reach into the side, remove oil filter, replace.
3. Fill with oil
4. replace middle skid plate.

A solo cup or shop rag can sit below the oil filter housing to catch any oil drips when removing the filter.

Oil Filter - 90915-10009 aka 90915-YZZN1
Oil Filter wrench - Motivx MX2320-US
Oil - 5.9 qt ILSAC GF-6A (SP) 0w-20 oil (I'd put 5 in and check)
Crush Washer - 90430-12031
Socket - 14mm

I really like the Motivx tools. Built really well but not insanely priced.

Front diff looks super easy to drain/fill.

(note this last photo is the front Differential drain plug, not engine oil!)

Shocking it’s not a cartridge oil filter, that Toyota went to a spin on filter. I sure do prefer a spin on filter!

How about the Front Diff and Trans/Transfer fill plugs? Are they easy to get to as well? The drain plug shown here looks the same as my 1st gen.

Fill plug on front diff is visible in that photo, above and to the right of the drain plug.

The transfer case has a ton of free space around it and the fill plugs are facing the rear of the truck, super easy. The front diffs can be the hardest and I'm happy it's easy to get to!

I am well versed on that subject. I drained my front diff on my gen 3 the first time I tried to change my oil. It is literally in the spot you would expect that the oil plug would be!

great info. Do you need a special tool to remove a spin on type oil filter? Also where does the crush ring go?

What sort of drain pan do you guys recommend? My only experience is with those big plastic containers that have a drain in the middle and a spout with a cap...that leaks all over everything. I know oil changing is messy by nature. Just polling to see if you guys have a better mouse trap idea.
