I recently mounted 285/70/17s on my SR5. I tested the clearance with and without the crash bar mount but I decided to leave the crash bar mount on, here's why: the clearance from the tire to the front end of the wheel well is the same as the clearance from the tire to the crash bar mount. (tires are fully cooked in the pics)

Well done to OP… screw all this insurance worry bullshit, … really …you want a bigger tire ? Do it, you want a wider tire do it … this comes down to toyota meeeting the EPA, and traffic saftey guidlines…
lol,me personaly ..not a fan of “ pizza cutter tires and wheels, others may like that…
Toyota tacomas ,have always traditionaly showed , poke and been beefy tonka looking trucks, However to each his own,
Honestly it comes down to what you like, Dont care about fuel economy, mud spray and stone. CHips, ride quality , noise,,, its a personal thing ,……… its a tacoma thing.
Me, i like some poke and lift maybe an inch here and a lift there not a lot just a bit , but our trucks are personal
So on that note , .lol im liffting my Taco about 2.5 inches, and running 285, tires probably 33, 35,s i dont know but this bastard will look like a Beefy bitch lol. Like the 1980,ies lol Its a truck , and thats what it is… my personal reflection. …..
