I have a Trailhunter and the sound system is good but I was wondering if anyone else with the upgraded JBL sound system notices very little sound from the door speakers. I have tried messing with the settings and nothing seems to improve this. I primarily listen to Spotify and tried Sirius/ XM and get the same results.
Today, I installed a Beatsonic amp and really don't notice a difference between having it installed vs. not - was hoping this might help. Thanks for any advice you guys might have.

The taco jbl stereo is average at best with a strong front sound bias. The door and rear sub? don’t seem to be intended to “balance” the sound at all. Set your sound at 30 and pull the sound all the way back, then left and right to see what I’m talking about. Unfortunately, not a lot of you can do about it if you want to keep your warranty…

the JBL in my Trailhunter sound fine. I just adjusted the front to back to get it sounding good for myself
If I fade the sound to the rear, the volume gets lower and I find myself turning it up almost to max. It still doesn't sound like it should when I have tried this. I have actually put my ear up to the door speakers and barely hear anything from those speakers.

I also have very little sound out of the 2024 Trailhunter door speakers. I was also wondering if this is normal.

In short, yes. It’s normal. set your front rear balance 75% to the rear and your volume to 50 and it sounds fine. It’s just badly set from the factory.

What do you listen to, music or podcasts? What’s your flavor?

The door speakers are mid-bass speakers, from my research playing from 110Hz to around 1500Hz. Then the sound goes up to the mids in the dash which play from there. If you listen to mostly spoken word content, you won’t notice the doors at all, as they play lower than voices. Pull the center dash speaker, and crank some tunes. I mention the center speaker as that’s detrimental to sounding good as well as it’s poorly balanced.

Personaly, im hearing challenged, service connected… i made adjustment and all sounds fine to me, however i am pushing 60 years old, listen to news and oldies tunes , some of younger guys may enjoy different music with higher volume…but honestly when i got home from dealer i turned up. I just installed a Beat Sonic amp this week. It made the sound better, and actually seemed to improve the lame sound field in the JBL system. But was no miracle and some day I will spring for a complete redo, but for now it is better than it was.

The front door speakers are setup to provide mostly bass, and the rest of the sound is muted and muddy at best. That is just how JBL tuned it, which makes no sense to me, but I am not a sound engineer.

If anything goes wrong with your taco that a Toyota tech can associate as caused or contributed to by an aftermarket item, they can, and mostly will deny your warranty claim.

Well yeah.. I guess it seemed like you knew something specific when I read your post. Have you heard of any problems that were traced back to this amplifier that caused warranty issues? Since the mini amp doesn't have an external power source, I think they would never know it was there if you install it behind the head unit.
