For those with or considering that option, just wanted to say that I'm very happy with the detachable JBL speaker thus far. I took it on a job site the other day and it was still going strong after 6 hours. Only thing is of course I'm just concerned about it getting banged up, but otherwise its pretty great.

I had always viewed it as a cheap gimmick that would never be used. Until I was at a get together with some friends and everyone had forgot their Bluetooth speaker. Was able to use the removable JBL and it worked great. Handy to always be in the truck.

This pic was to illustrate my Fas-Top tonneau and topped all in one when I was tweaking the initial setup at the cabin but there's the first time I realized the speaker is not such a gimmick (sitting against window).

Two months later everything looks more used but I like the all of it - the Tacoma, JBL, Fas-Top, long bed, plus the effort to find one built between basic and too fancy.

My maiden voyage across the Mojave desert back home the removable dash speaker was awesome. Rocked out. I leave it home when doing daily shit like mall crawling, gym, Costco hauls…the system sounds excellent even with it missing, I like how it automatically compensates if it’s gone.

Only using the JBL dash speaker on multi day trips & camping. Added peace of mind in urban environments, one less incentive for thieves

Fun fact: it uses a solid state battery.

The dashboard mounted JBL bluetooth speaker gets HOT baking in the summer sun.

I read that Toyota chose a solid state battery for their JBL portable speaker because of its excellent thermal performance.

I just picked up my truck a few hours ago. My first impression is that the sound system is a lot better than some people say. I haven't had the chance to listen to more than one of my reference albums but it sounded very good IMO. Throw in the cool removable speaker and I think it is a winner.
