- 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport Premium (6MT) in WCP

Hi all,
I ordered a TRD Sport Premium 6MT back in January and got an allocation in Wind Chill Pearl. My truck finally came in and I took possession a week ago! I came from a 2021 TRD Sport, also manual transmission, in Silver Sky Metallic. The main reason I even went with the 2024 at this point is the crazy value for used trucks right now. If you set aside the cost of maintenance and taxes, I traded in my 2021 for 4k less than the price I paid for it brand new in 2021. I know the Tacoma holds value, but that much was unexpected.
I am still waiting on the black TRD wheels, which the factory refused to add to my build and apparently went on backorder as soon as I got the truck. The dealer estimates late June for them, which is quite frustrating since they refused to get the wheels ordered until I went to sign the paperwork.
I did manage to get the OEM tonneau cover installed by the dealer, as well as an aftermarket PPF done by a shop the dealer works with down the road from them. The goal was to protect the paint but I am not satisfied with the job, there were a couple of spots that stood out once I got home. One area in the grill that looks like it's got a small chip/crack on the edge, and has some discoloration. Then another odd discoloration at the top of the hood near the scoop/windshield. Anyway, I've reached out to the dealer about that since they seem to have skipped giving me any paperwork whatsoever on the PPF.
Following advice from others on this forum, I negotiated with the dealer's used car guy to give me a credit for the truck's stock wheels and tires since I wanted the black TRD wheels and my own tires. Thanks for the tip, since it paid for most of the cost of the wheels (once the wheels come in, they are going to take the OEM wheels and tires, and credit me $1250). I might have gotten more if I sold them myself, but this is way more convenient and hassle-free.
Based on another tip from someone else on the forum, I got the exhaust tip, floor mats and spare tire lock from a dealer in Virginia that has some really good sale prices on their internet store front (https://toyotaparts.ourismantoyotaofrichmond.com/).

I was a little apprehensive/curious based on the various descriptions I've read from people that tried the new manual transmission. I've driven nothing but manual transmissions for the past 25 years and I was not sure what to expect from the new Tacoma. I'm pleased to report it's been fantastic. I have no issues with clutch or shifting. The one thing I'll say is I tried the iMT for one trip to the store, and turned it right back off. Perhaps it's helpful or beneficial for some folks, but I found it annoying.
There are a few quirks others have already highlighted, like the dashboard layout not remembering your customization, but I hope they will address that in a firmware update. One thing I am not a fan of is a change in Carplay from the 2021 to the 2024. In the 2021, I had a fully functional Music app (my albums on iphone storage, synched from itunes). In the 2024, when the vehicle is in motion, I am unable to browse/select from the full music catalog on my iphone. Instead, I get a list of like 10 albums or artists and there's no other pages. I brought this to Apple support's attention, and they told me this is Toyota's doing. They suggested I talk to Siri, but I have that crap turned off on my phone. There's pseudo siri, which is the voice button on the steering wheel, but it is hopeless. Whenever I tell it to play a certain artist, it6 tries to do so via Apple Music and I don't pay for that. Enough ranting about Apple and their antics.
One odd thing I am wondering if anyone else has noticed - the hood visibly moves up and down while driving. I opened and shut the hood firmly to make sure that wasn't it. I verified the truck also does have the black insulation layer on the inside of the hood, as well. This happening for anyone else? It's subtle but noticeable, maybe a half inch of motion. It's not constant, and I'd say it probably is most visible when going over rough/bumpy terrain, but I wouldn't expect the hood to move at all.
Build so far:
-----------
OEM tonneau cover (PT954-35240)
Plasti-dip front emblem (got mine from Ace Hardware in town)
Console organizer tray (there are a bunch of similar options, I went with this one)
Carista OBD to kill that obnoxious seat belt chime (Amazon)
OEM all weather floor mats (PT206-35243-20)
Black tailgate insert (PT948-35241-02)
Door panel scuff protectors (PT924-35241)
Go Rhino V-Series V3 steps (Go Rhino now owned by Real Truck)
PPF (hood, fender, mirrors, door cups, door edge)
Still waiting on:
--------------
Black TRD wheels (PTR56-35242-F1) to go with tires I already purchased
Black exhaust tip (PT932-34221-02) - came yesterday, yet to install it
Spare tire lock (PT276-34071)- came yesterday, yet to install it
Debating:
---------
I want to get the PPF figured out, but once I do I might have a local detailer apply a ceramic. It's costly, but I may decide to go ahead with that once I can stomach him taking my truck for 4-5 days.
Tried to order a bed mat as well, but it was also on backorder. I'll try again later.
