I have an iPhone 16 Pro ... meh ... it works ... but the Apple car key feature is super flakey - amongst other software app issues.

Hi Friends,

I have the iPhone 15 Pro. Car Play and the Toyota App work flawlessly. With the iPhone 8 you run the risk of your phone not being supported by Apple in the near future.

Cheers,
PO

You will want a new phone. Yes the phone "may" work with some functions but I believe that phone is done getting software updates which supports any and all CarPlay updates to work flawlessly with your phone. Not to mention you will love the camera upgrade and you can throw away that old 35mm camera you have been lugging around:)

I have an iPhone SE2022 (with is similar to the 13) and my kids have the old iPhone SE (which I think is the 11). All our phones work well with the Toyota system. My recommendation is, if you're happy with the functionality of your iPhone, don't bother upgrading it until you can't upgrade your iOS anymore. iOS upgrades provide new features and functionality along with bug fixes and security updates. At a minimum you should have an iPhone that can be updated with the latest iOS.

I'm a lot like you. I don't need the latest greatest phone. I update when I can no longer update the iOS.

A lot of carriers will give you a new iPhone free with a trade in right now. Take advantage of the holiday bargains.

I’m pretty tech savvy with Apple products, but I was thankful my sales guy sat me in the truck and helped me connect my iPhone and Toyota App to my new Taco.

The new trucks support Wireless CarPlay, so you don’t have to plug anything in. It just sees your iPhone and connects.

Of Note: Your iPhone case can impact the wireless charging. I switched cases and got a more reliable wireless charging connection.
