I agree the key flob is really junk compared to other manufactures. I have to look out my window and do the dance with the flob while watching and hoping for the puff of steam to come out of the tail pipe in the winter. Shame on Toyota, but I would also like to keep my $180 a year in my bank. So no thanks for the offer.

like a previous member said: " As I pointed out earlier, with the key fob, you can reach into your pocket and press a button. The downside is that you need a line of sight. With the app, you can be anywhere in the world as long as you have a cell signal. That was a Lexus selling point—if you're traveling for an extended period, you can remotely start your vehicle to charge the battery. "

When we tried it we were in sight of the vehicle within 10 - 15 feet of our truck. Didn't try it any further away from the vehicle.

$15 a month to be able to start my truck from my phone, yeah, no! Not happening. That is the only thing I would use the app for anyways. I turned off all the notifications and the whole driver summary thing. I drove like a 90+ old man until the engine was past (OK, almost past) the break in and it was still telling me I took corners to fast or accelerated/braked to hard. What ever their idea of "safe" driving is would get me killed by another driver just driving normal.

On a different note, I have actually had some fairly decent luck with the fob from a distance. I have started my truck from the 4th floor of my office building with it in the third row so not even right under me.
🤷‍♂️

I got mine free for 5 years I believe, didn't have to fight for it either. All depends what you work out with your sales manager during purchase, but I'd never pay the $15 either.

A lot of people talk shit about my local dealer, but it's the best experience I ever had. Didn't try and upsell my nothing, took well good care of me with any issues, worked hard to get me an APR I didn't think I'd stand a chance at getting. I only hope my next experience is as good as that.

On principle I won’t pay for a subscription so when mines up it’s done. Don’t use it much anyway. At home my truck is in a garage at night so it’s not cold in winter. When out I can warm it up within a short drive taking it easy the first few minutes, idling it is the worst way to warm it up anyway.
If I had no garage or lived up in a more northern area I’d have gotten the block heater.
We have heated seats, heated steering wheels, I think I can deal with getting into a truck that hasn’t been warmed up for 10 minutes, lol.

It's kinda handy, but I don't use it nearly enough to justify paying monthly for it. When the trial is up, I'll be deleting it

Lol Same. The seats and wheel heat up fairly quickly so I'll use those until the truck warms up, then kick on the heater vents.

yeah I saw another thread on the topic of data collection, so went in to the app and "revoked all consent" for data:

..because of this, I'm now permanently a "guest" in the truck I just paid 60k for last week. I can't "save settings" or even create a local account on the truck. It's "YOU PAY US to hoover up all kinds of gross data and sell it, or screw you".

This is leaving a sour taste in my mouth, but it's the society we've allowed to be created. I feel better about giving them the finger now instead of waiting a year to find this is the case, but it's really slimy.

The infotainment system is subpar anyway, so I use android auto. Yes, the irony, I'm sure google is doing the same thing, but at the very least they aren't asking for money to do it. Toyota is having their cake and eating it too, which is disgusting.

I used the app alot and like it. For my son's 2023 off road I did pay like $90 for the year of remote app control. That 7.50 a month and you can pay it all at once. That was about the limit I would pay. Not doing $15 a month or $180 a year. It is not worth that price to me.
Yes, my wife has had the app for 4 years now for her RAV and that's about what we pay. I just use the fob for my Taco, but she loves the app. So she gets it. lol

I don't use the app, but my settings stay the same. The guest part doesn't come up anymore on my truck. Seems weird.

You have to be like 15 feet away, and within a direct line of sight lol. Probably not that stringent, but myself and other have found it to not even be worth trying with the fob cause it's so temperamental.
I've never had an issue with mine. Works flawlessly every time.
