I put a deposit in last week to reserve a TRD Off-Road Premium that the sales rep sent me. He said it's scheduled to be built by 6/30 and delivered by late July or early August. The deal sheet he sent me had a VIN number and everything, but nothing is showing up in Toyota's inventory search at that dealership or really anything within 250 miles that matches the truck I put a deposit down on. There are obviously plenty of trucks that are in the build phase or in transit that have the same date range for deliver so I'm curious why the one I reserved wouldn't be showing up. I put the VIN number into the toyota owners dashboard or whatever and it showed up as a valid VIN, but it says it's an SR5. It also shows a PDI dated 2/7/24 in the service history. I guess I'm just confused by all of this. Is this just a stand in VIN number they put on the deal sheet? Is that normal?

I got a temporary vin, then the actual vin when it got to Houston. Then 2 weeks later the truck arrived at my Dealer. You have to be patient, Toyota doesn't communicate with Dealers. Dealers don't know anything about the truck until it arrives at the Dealer.

Yes, you start with a temporary VIN and then once the truck is built the dealer can get the real VIN. Also, I will add that some dealers are more clued in than others. Mine told me he wouldn't have a VIN until it arrived. I found this funny, since the truck gets a VIN when it's built. He just didn't look (or didn't know to look?) in the right spot. Once the dealer searches the temporary VIN after the build date, it should reflect the new VIN on his page. Some folks in the forum have shown their own build status page with the real VIN on the top.

It's definitely frustrating for the consumers, and the process tries your patience for sure.

From all that I’ve seen, it won’t show up on the inventory search until it’s built. So around 6/30 you should see it.

My dealer alerted me about a TH allocation. I did the same thing, searched the inventory for a couple weeks and didn’t see it. Then around the end of May they built a bunch of THs and it showed up.

Same experience for a TH I put a deposit on. Got what I assume is a temp VIN with a production completion date of 7/1 and a delivery date range of 7/18-8/16. Just waiting it out at this point.
