I wanted to be sure before ordering a tailgate lock from McGard, so I contacted them. Their reply is attached. Does anyone know of a company that has a different solution?

Too many mixed reviews for me. One Tacoma owner claimed it damaged their tailgate. I'm going to purchase the Pop & Lock one, it's universal and the vendor states it works on the 4th gens.

I had to cut a 1/2” wide strip of aluminum to wrap around mine (the clamp band is too narrow) and then installed the clap around it. You’ll have to leave it slightly loose to be able to rotate it to its final resting position (It has to rotate forward for the tailgate to close). Position clamp as far right as possible and aluminum strip to the left. After looking at the Pop & Lock, I think I would order that one. It looks like it would be the better choice. But they will both work.

It looks like you may have it rotated 90 degrees forward. Here is mine.
Yes, it is! I had to do that for my tailgate to close properly. I notice that your tail gate doesn’t have the rubber edge that mine does. Is yours a 2024 - automatic tailgate?

Wow that is different. Mine is a 2024 TRD Sport without an automatic tailgate.

I appreciate you guys testing them out. An Amazon search shows 3 vendors making the tailgate locks for the 2024. However, checking the individual websites, I found two of the vendors don’t claim they fit the 2024. Only the Bobbercycle website mentions the 2024. The website offers just the tailgate lock for $34.95, or both the cable and tailgate lock nuts for $59.95.
Bobbercycle: $59.95

McGard: $28.24

Thanks for all of the advice. I have the TRD OR without auto tailgate. I just installed the McGard lock. It took 2 minutes and fit perfectly without using the included sizing inserts.

I installed pop and lock today. Only took a few minutes, just have to loosen rubber molding on side of tailgate.

They can still smash your window, unlock your truck, then steal it. I think I'm getting a lock. Cheaper than a new tailgate - then painted - then programed.
can they tho? Don't you still need a fob in proximity to enable power to the tailgate button in the cab?

I'd like to actually disable that tailgate switch and rely exclusively on the fob for the tailgate. Probably I'll end up physically disconnecting it by removing the switch panel and done. I don't think the cabin lock buttons control the tailgate. It's on its own switch. Albeit a tailgate lock is only $40, but breaking the glass to open the tailgate doesn't stack up. You need the fob or the vehicle running for that button to work last I checked.
