I have the double cab long bed off road, on which I installed the SyneticUSA retractable bed cover. I’m trying to think of a good way to carry a full size spare without adding length to the truck with a hitch mount.

I don’t have a roof rack, but putting a spare up there would make my truck quite tall. Not a great solution since I fault this to work and park in a garage.

Laying it down in the bed would work but seems like kind of a goofy use of bed space.

the best thing I’ve thought of is mounting a rack above my tonneau cover using the t slots. But the drawbacks are 1. It would potentially impede access to the bed and 2. Rear view would be rough.
Was looking around for kind of a mid-height rack that would sit high enough to see under/access the bed under without being as high as on top of the cab. Even something I can mount far left behind drivers seat. Not sure if that exists or would work.

Please jump in with suggestions and/or recommendations. This isn’t a new problem, I’m just new to needing a solution for it.

Mine has a 285/70r17 in the OEM location no issues. It will effect departure angle but if I know things are going to get serious I figured just pull it and put it in the bed.

Our 6.5" bed rack with mounted tie downs is a common solution to carry a spare tire. If you want a little more space under the crossbars you can go with the 12.5" but it may stick the tire above the cab just a bit. Our racks are adjustable every 2" in height so you can dial it in as needed. We have uprights that can mount in t-slots.

I just got rid of that stupid donut spare and put a stock TRD Sport rim with a 265 65/R18 tire in its place on my Sport. The outside diameter of the new tire is 31.6 and it fit with at least an inch to spare and it does not hang any lower than the donut. Your tire is certainly wider and it would hang lower which would impact exit angle, but as you said, for crazy OR days just remove it. It would work perfectly for road and light trails.
