I read somewhere that the 4 banger turbo was designed for commercial duty workloads.

I do know it has a huge 3" cooling inlet. Most V8 engines use this size.

Seems like they beefed up the engine from the Lexus use, but why is the oil filter so tiny? My Nissan Versa’s small 4 banger‘s filter was larger.

The 3” coolant inlet that’s pictured is actually the inlet that goes straight to the throttle body the large hose connected to it goes straight to the intercooler. That’s one of the first things I noticed when Sheldon brown first started talking about this engine. He’s got to be a idiot to confuse the charge air inlet to the throttle body for a coolant inlet he has no clue

I'm not sure that diagram is correct for the Tacoma. Our trucks clearly use a front mount air to air intercooler. The diagram shows a liquid to air intercooler. I am betting there are other differences. I would take this with a grain of salt.
