I got word from my dealer yesterday that my limited was finally off QC hold and moved to rail depart in National City hoping it arrives soon and they fixed whatever caused the hold! It was built 2/14 on hold 2/17 until yesterday with a new ETA of 3/5-3/24.
Hoping this is a sign that my truck will be released soon. Went on hold 2/19.

They must be coming as my local dealer with the 10k markups just texted me to ask if I was still interested and I told her I purchased a month ago from an MSRP local dealer and she told me she would have let it go for MSRP. I told her they are going to lose business to all the other dealers that are selling at MSRP. I guess they can list them as high as they want when they don’t have them in stock. Have already seen another dealer cut the added markup in half as they get them in.

I just got word that mine was released from the Quality Control Hold today after being on hold for two weeks. It was built on 1/17, waited 2.5 weeks for a vessel, arrived in port and was on hold since 2/19. Scheduled to arrive between now and March 29th as it still needs to travel by train and delivery truck. At least it is back on the move. Just waiting for a more narrow window so I can drive from the Central Valley in California to Oregon to pick it up.

You stated "March 29th as it still needs to travel by train and delivery truck. ". Wouldn't this already be located at a California port? Why Oregon? Perhaps I'm confused here...

The truck in question is likely allocated to a dealer in Oregon. I assume JHTeacher secured that allocation by placing a deposit and is awaiting its arrival to the dealer in Oregon so he can travel there to pick it up.

I am purchasing the truck from a dealer in Oregon because I was unable to get a similar truck in Northern California as there has only been one allocation in all of Northern California for the truck I was looking for color wise, trim wise, and similar in options. The one that was allocated in Northern California was already presold and had a dealer mark up of $5,995 plus items I really didn't want such as a console safe, etc. I refuse to pay dealer mark up. I was able to get the truck for MSRP and it has almost exactly what I was looking for as far as accessories plus the color I wanted. It is a TRD Sport 4x4 Double Cab with a 5 foot bed in Blue Crush Metallic with TRD wheels, audio media upgrade, heated seats, predator tube steps, blackout emblems, and a bed step (which I could take or leave). There are no other unwanted packages or options on the truck and the only thing missing that I was wanting are mud guards and a tonneau cover, so it is basically exactly what I was looking for and I felt it will be worth the nearly 400 mile drive to acquire it. Most of the options in Southern California for something similar have dealer add-ons, dealer mark up, lemon protection packages, or included the expensive packages I wasn't looking for. At this, there are only a handful of TRD Sport 4x4 Double Cabs even available in Blue Crush Metallic in Southern California. Blue Crush Metallic, last I calculated, was only about 5% of the entire color production run nationwide and that is across all trim levels so it isn't a common color to try and acquire such as Celestial Silver, Underground, or White which seem to be the heavily allocated colors for Northern California. My thoughts are that if I a going to be spending money for a truck I might as well wait or travel within an acceptable distance to get almost exactly what I want.

While my dealer told me not to expect my TRD OR until at least April, I noticed an update on the allocation sheet. My VIN never had an ETA before. Now it states an ETA of 03/15. I'm trying very hard not to be overly optimistic... 😒

Same thing happened to me. I never had an ETA and then suddenly I got 3/10-3/22. It's on a train to Ohio now. Dealer said to expect it closer to the 3/22 then the 3/10. Must be a SLOWWWW train.

Something similar happened to me too. I ended up choosing a dealership 150 miles away because the one 50 miles away was playing games and had terrible communication. They refused to budge and last night I got a call asking if I was still interested. I told them I found the exact same config at another dealership and that that dealer was going to not charge for tint, bed liner, or any other addition from the DC, plus they are quick to respond and very friendly. The dealer that was closer took days to respond to a single email and text, didn't answer any questions, refused to negotiate, refused to hold off on the DC installed options (same DC as the other dealership) and I'm too old to play games (plus it'll make for a nice drive anyways). Dealerships are a relic of the past IMHO; they're sole purpose is to rip off uninformed, impatient and nervous consumers. Toyota and all the other manufacturers should just follow Tesla and Rivian and allow internet orders straight from the manufacturer.

I was told the ETA is to the regional distribution center (for us it's in Houston), not the dealership itself. My salesperson said that it spends about 4-5 days there getting the goodies they want on (like tint, bedliner, etc) and then it gets put on the truck and shipped to the dealer, then you can expect a few more days for the paperwork stuff to get generated. Mine is a 3/16 arrival at the DC, so I expect about 2 weeks after that for me to pick it up; but since that's coming up fast I'll try to respond here with how long it took me.. I'm also in SATX but I'm buying from Corpus. If you don't mind me asking which dealership are you buying from?

I tried Alamo, Cavender, and Universal and nobody called, texted or emailed back. Either the website contact form is broken, Toyota's build page didn't send the interest info to the dealer, or those dealerships don't care about internet sales. I drove into Alamo Toyota and there were about 15 salespeople just standing around not doing anything except IMHO looking for prey to pounce on. I sat in a SR just to get a feel for it, and quickly left. How did your sales go?

So, pretty much the exact opposite of you. The three dealers you interacted with, I never even contacted. I was looking very specifically for a TRD Off-road with premium package. I knew GST was gonna throw on a bunch of crap I didn't care for, but that's the price you pay for living in their area.

I looked online and saw the three you interacted with only had SRs and SR5s up on their page so I moved on. I had some good back and forth with Mike at Gunn. He had what I wanted as an allocation and at MSRP but it was Solar Octane. I really wanted Ice Cap. I then did the online contact request with North Park. Took them about 10 minutes to call me on my cell. Vanisia, their online sales rep looked up their allocations and saw they had an Ice Cap TRD OR with premium on their list. I drove down to them and test drove the blue Sport they were using as a demo and gave them a deposit.

So far it's been fairly painless. Just waiting now. I was thinking about your earlier post and am pretty confident that either the folks at North Park aren't really well versed on what is happening with their allocations or are just making sh*t up as they go. They told me when I dropped the deposit in Feb that the truck was in port. But the more I compare my situation to yours, I think maybe it hadn't even arrived in country yet. Hence the newly popped ETA.

It doesn't matter to me. I'm older and not driven by instant gratification. I can wait for the things I really want. But perhaps she thought I'd fall off the hook if it appeared to be taking too long.

Sorry for the novel, let me know how your situation works out and we'll compare notes.

No worries, just crazy that in 2024 we're still dealing with salesmen like this when practically every other consumable item is available for purchase online. I was looking for a Blue OR Premium and nobody in SA had one.. Austin had a few but half of the dealerships already had a markup. Houston had some too I was not willing to drive a brand new car on I-10. My mother in law purchased a Honda from AutoNation in Corpus and I'm buying my Taco from their Toyota branch, and surprisingly they were very easy to get along with and negotiate. I was able to negotiate all of the extra stuff and BS fees off; no other dealer was willing to negotiate over the net.. so I get a bit of a loyalty discount and my mother in law gets a nice little referral check.
