Donald Trump announced today that he intends to impose across the board 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico the day he is inaugurated.

Does that mean a 25% increase in the price of a Tacoma? Toyota might absorb some of that, but it has to mean huge price increases on Tacomas and it will price a lot of us out of the Tacoma market. I bet Toyota wishes they had expanded in Texas, rather than Mexico.

Even with a wonky transmission I'm glad I already have my Tacoma.

Not meant to be a political discussion - doing that in the US today would be weird. I'm kind of surprised they even let the thread appear. Maybe a mod will wack it soon, so to speak.

Just wondering what that might mean for the price of a Tacoma next year.

A tariff is a horrible idea but it seems like trump wants to use it for leverage. Who knows. Maybe toyota moves all trucks to San Antonio.

Lock this thread now. Please. For all of our sanity.
No, leave it alone.

I am an potential future Tacoma and it affects future Tacoma buyers.

Toyota must’ve wished that they kept Tacoma production in Texas.

I don't think it will because there should be enough of the Tacoma made outside of Mexico like in the states and other plants that it shouldn't cause a huge issue in price. I saw somewhere that someone had talked to their dealership and it looked to be less than a 1k increase in price projected. Hopefully that stays and doesn't make the trucks too expensive for the people still on the fence with them.

Tariffs work both ways, so the affected countries will impose tariff on US exports. Something like the Tacoma could get double taxed since our transmissions are exported from the US. The long standing chicken tax also makes Tacomas made in Japan an expensive proposition.
