So I have a dumb question. I am browsing tonneau covers and am curious if there are any that retains the factory bed rails system? I am getting conflicting information and just trying to get some clarity on what type/brand allows me to keep the bed rails for versatility when the cover is open.

Plenty. Diamondbacks (all models) for certain leave the factory bedrails in the same spot as they come.

The Extang Solid Fold ALX I have does a good job of only using minor amounts of the factory tracks.

Easy to install, and really easy to remove if you need the whole bed.

See https://realtruck.com/p/extang-solid-fold-alx-tonneau-cover/v/toyota/tacoma/2024/?z=1739416072802

I took some photos after I installed it if needed.

Factory Toyota cover retains full use of rails by using mounting brackets behind the rails leaving the rails in front for full access. Most other covers I have seen have brackets that use the rails to anchor the top down. The space used is minimal by the mounting brackets.

My Bakflip F1 leaves plenty of access to the tie downs on my rails. The last version required relocating the rails which wasn’t too big of a deal.

My Pace Edward’s retractable tonneau uses the bed rails as the anchor to the truck. I still use an OEM bed divider on the rails, though had to modify it slightly to avoid interference with the tonneau.

I just ordered the BAK Revolver X4TS...it uses the factory cleat rail to attach (you remove the plug on the end and slide in brackets). No need to remove and reattach them, thus weakening the anchoring strength. I also like how there are also no drain tubes...

Does this move the whole rail assembly down as well? I have seen a couple that move the whole bracket down slightly and hinder movement of the access door for the plugs on the left.

How is the seal on water coming in since there is no drain tubes?

Here is a pic. Yes the mounting of the rail moves down slightly and away from the bed wall. The upper screw (Pink head) is the original rail mounting location. The space between the pink screws is basically the distance the rail moved.

Been raining hard last few days for me and no leaks with the X4TS. However, I am getting leaks from the tailgate on both ends. Feel that's more of a Toyota thing than a Bakflip thing. Plan on putting foam seal tape to prevent the leaks there.
